Gear oil change cup 172

  Sunflower & Golf Mk6 BMT
Some people dont ever change the box oil, however I changed mine on my 172 ph1 and it did make the gear shifting more smooth and precise. I'd argue that its worth doing.

it's not actually in the Renault schedule at all and generally doesn't need doing until v high mileage in most cars. however.. the gearbox needs looking after in these and i'm planning on changing it every few years - easy job, although the oil's not all that cheap. needs 3L and should be 75/80; Renault recommend Tranself TRX (superceded by NFP) - about £50/5L from Renault

lots on here seem to use the Castrol equivalent (EPX?) which you can get from Halfords

As above, According to Renault it never needs changing but you should see the colour of the oil after 50k miles useage. Once I'd changed mine, gearchanges were smoother and less notchy.
