gearbox mount, (be gentle in new lol)

  Clio 172
So I've just purchased a phase 2 Clio 172,

On my way home I found coming of islands and through the gears when I went back on the accelerator I would here a slight knock. I've had issues with gearbox mounts in the past and this seems similar.

My question is:-

is there a easy way to confirm that it is the twisted dog bone Mount and if so what's the ideal replacement? I had a full polybush kit on my old car and they were awesome but I've heard many people mention k-tec or flo-flex as being good. What are your opinions on these?

Cheers in advance guys

Powerflex dogbone transforms the gearshift feel IMO.

Also check that it's not shagged mounts causing the manifold to knock somewhere.

Most likely the dogbone mount, in which case most people opt for the Powerflex one. They cost about £40 - £45 from memory.

I have one here to be fitted as mine is similar to yours. It's really common.

if the cars a phase 2 it'll be a twisted dogbone and its the cheapest and simplest thing to swap to check if the issues clear.

if it doesn't then the top gearbox mount under the battery tray or the top engine mount on the cam belt side could be shagged too

oh and powerflex for the dogbone works well, just bosh the old bushes out the a hammer and the new ones slot straight in, easy as pie.

2 bolts to remove and refit it

vibratechnics for track car perhaps, but on the daily sack that right off imo

^ Exactly.

The extra vibration at idle is negated by the fact the engine no longer sounds like it's wanting to come through the bulkhead. Gear-lever doesn't move at all now, which is a plus.

I am aware that it is a dog bone it was more a case of if there was anything else I should be looking at before buying one

Standard upper mounts, polybushed dogbone is the best combo for a road car IMO.

If your dogbone is worn, you'll get excess movement in the gearstick when you come on and off the throttle.

If your upper gearbox mount is worn, you'll get a knocking at low/mid revs on the throttle. Cheap part and can be swapped in 15 mins if you know what you're doing.

If the knocking is coming at high revs, undo the upper engine mount bolts, pull the engine forward and then tighten the bolts.

So I was looking on ebay and found this (k-tec racing dog bone mount)

now the listing was for a clio 172 but had been modified to fit a twingo, these parts were also included in the auction, these are slightly thicker.

My question is, is which ones should I use??

On eBay type in "Clio 172 Dogbone" and there will be many solid mounts like the above^ I have just fitted one, its made a huge difference to the gear change! Also stopped my exhaust shaking itself to bits haha

So old dog bone removed and k-tec fitted in 30mins (won on ebay for £40), great bit of kit. It solved the knocking and provides a really solid gear change. Only down side, it rattles on idle and liftoff (engine breaking).
I think I can deal with that.. Time will tell.

once again guys your responses/feedback are really appreciated.

£40 quid's not bad at all,
Powerflex bushes are that much plus you'd still have to get the old ones out and press the new ones in.

There is a choice of colours on these mounts, guessing they represent stiffness? what would you guys recommend for a daily?
