gearbox oil

My K-reg Clio has done 118000 miles and generally seems to be OK, I just have some difficulties with the gearbox.

I took the car into renault this morning to have the master cylinder replaced, and the guy dropping me off at work (in my car) commented on the fact that the gearbox was quite strange, as he had difficulty pushing the stick out of 2nd when going up to 3rd. Also he said the car shouldnt need to be completely stopped to get it into 1st, this should be possible from about 5mph and below.

Suppose Im used to these things so I dont notice it, but Im still a bit concerned.

He said that some of the new gearbox oils could really help with that, is there such a thing as a good gearbox oil for high-mileage engines?

Redline stuff supposed to be good. Put mine in at 70k and is an improvement. MX5 users recommend it as a cure for dodgy first to second gear changes.

redline is ok, but service life is short.

The recomended Transefl TRX 85w90 is good, and there are other choices, but there is no old box oil.

I gave the garage a call while my car was in this morning, and asked them to change the gear oil......Im not sure what theyve put in but Ive definitely noticed a difference!

They also washed the car, which I didnt ask them to do!
Should hope so as well, the amount it cost

how much, gearbox oil change is a 20 min operation and in labour should only cost about 15 quid.

As the car was in to replace the master cylinder as well it all came to quite a lot, £331 to be exact.

on the invoice under Parts it says "Gear Oil : £15" and under job description it has "Change gearbox oil : £27.50". does this sound about right?

anyone know how much Renault charge per hour for labour?

labour charges vary from £57 up to £80 per hour depending on area.
