gearbox woes..

ok now not only is my gearstick squeeking like a pig being molested, but occasionally it wont go into first easily, takes a few attempts, and also now occasionally grates as i put into 5th. Any ideas anyone??

Think i have the same problem as you, just makes a squeeley noise when moving it at all, sometimes it will only let you put it half way into 1st gear, it seems to be better in the cold weather though, i think its the gearbox oil or the gear linkage rod myself

thats exactly it! how esy is it to change the gearbox oil? if its the linkage rod, how much is that gonna cost :S

i asked renault to change the oil and they told me it was a sealed unit and it couldnt be changed, what a lie, i had a look in the haynes in halfords and it can be changed. i'm not sure how much gear linkage rods are but it could also be the bearings or mounts tbh

if it was a sealed unit and couldnt be changed that would be a really bad design flaw, lol. I've got a haynes manual in he car so will check that and give it a go.

have you had the problem with any of the gears going in but making a horrible grating sound as it does it? i've been worried it might be something that'll cost a fortune and will noly get worse, sounds like its not the case though

yeah mine does make a noise when engaging into gears, i do think its the transmition oil though. dont know how to fill it up though
