Genuine rear bearing fail after 50 miles

Literally fitted these, drove to track and did a 20 minute session and this happened, it's so broke the wheel doesn't even turn freely.

Genuine discs from Renault parts uk FYI.

Could this be caused by fitment? I have the spacer present and in the correct way!

I did yes. The other side is totally fine annoyingly. The misses is currently going to to get me some replacements so I can go out for the afternoon at least.

I've just done exactly the same thing on my track 172

Fitted a new disc on Wednesday, tracked it at Mallory friday and on the way home it started making a horrific whining noise.

I can't find anywhere that does uprated ones though!

Offside rear by any chance? Mine likes to munch on these far more frequently than the nearside.

Was the tapered ring definitely the right way around?

Yup 100% If it wasn't it would be cracked, which it wasn't thank god. Yes it was the offside, it lasted a few laps of Snet... although I would have thought it would have been the near side being that most of Snet is hard right handers?!

Well I have a single spare to carry with me now, I torqued up the replacements to 175nm and the other bearing (the near side) is now seeping abit of very dark grease, although its fine and might be normal with hard use, not nothing ive paid attention to before now.

It must be the curbs, i dont think Renault took this into account when specifying the part.

What bearings would people suggest I replace the broken one with? I doubt Renault will replace them and being as the disc is brand new its pointless binning them.

There are loads of 'genuine' bearings on eBay for around the £20 mark, as I don't know who makes the bearings in Renaults discs does anyone know a good brand to go for?

SNR make the bearings in genuine discs IIRC.

...Although if they've failed already they may not be the best to go for lol.

Well I'm assuming it wasn't user fitment error but surely even a badly torqued hub nut wouldn't cause the extreme quick failure I had?! Who knows.

I think FAG, SKF and SNR are generally considered good wheel bearing brands. I think I can see SNR on the bearing in the first pic.

Might be worth replacing the spacer/washer/thingy in case it's damaged/deformed and the hub nut for good measure as well. Might be worth using a different torque wrench too, though you'd expect yours would need to be a long way out for it to have caused this and not ruined the other side as well. Wonder if it could also be heat related if your rear caliper is sticking for example?

I've not had any trouble with the bearings on my car since I replaced them (also with genuine Renault), but my tyre/suspension setup probably won't put as much load through them as yours and I don't generally use much kerb.

As Above SNR make the bearings for Renault there the best quality bearing brand you can buy.

Out of interest why wouldn't your setup put as much load through them as mine?

The bearings all appear to come with replacement cirlips

Think you're running stickier tyres and better suspension than me. I'm on cup shocks, Eibach pro-kit springs and 195/50/15 AD08Rs - mine is softer than would be ideal for track.
