Get my 172 cup back today!!!

  172 cup
Whoo hoo! Just got a call from the garage, my 172 cup is ready for collection!!! :D

They've had it 3 weeks now since it was stolen & recovered. Can't believe they've had it so long because there was no damage. It's only had new wheels and tyres, a few small dents removed and a full valet. Can't wait to see it, should be good as new and I finally get to see if it drives the same as before.......fingers crossed!

I'll let you all know how I get on this afternoon......

It'll feel good for a while...but after a while i think it'd be the same feeling as,
when you take a girl back after she'd been drilled off someone else..

i dont care how or how little work has been carried out on it!
it will never be the same! just like having an accident (your fault or not) car will never be the same!!

and that as well! :)

Lol @ Trotter and Scotland! Do you really think the thief will have driven it any harder than you do every week. It was used in a burglary iirc so the way I look at it is they are driving around in a car thats reported stolen on its original reg plates, I reckon they would be driving like a granny to avoid drawing attention to themselves rather than tripoding round every roundabout.

Agree i'd be pissed off and it would feel strange but wouldn't put me off the car if it was mechanically sound and valeted.

Hope everything is ok with it.

To be honest I haven't decided what to do with it yet. At first I was sure I was gonna sell it because it wouldn't feel the same, but the longer I've been without it the more I've missed it! Another big factor is that I can't find anything else I like half as much. I was possibly thinking about a 306 GTi-6 with half the money and spending the rest on a new motocross bike but I've got a feeling that once I've driven it again this afternoon I won't want to sell it...

Just got my car back. WOW, the garage have done an absolutely awesome job! It looks as good as new, even better than I'd hoped! The new wheels look mint. All the little car park dents have gone and the interior looks perfect.

Took it for a quick blast down the country lanes and it seems to drive exactly the same as before...rapid!!!

Still not 100% sure what to do with it now though. I know people say it's only a car but I don't feel as proud driving it anymore, maybe that'll change?!

if it feels the same mate then keep it! its no different than before, yeah some b*****d has been in it, but then again who owned it before you? how was it treated every time it was taken on a road test when in for a service? i would imagine probably quite hard! so stop worying and get driving ;)

Personally IMO body work, wheels, tyres ...anything cosmetic is easily repaired and it doesn't matter what they have done to that as a nick of paint and it'll look like new......

its what they may have done to the engine/gearbox.

I doubt anyone nicked a cup to drive it like a granny???

Its no use having the car back when some gimp has taken 50k miles off your clutch and you find out about it in a months time.

I would see how it goes, but I know I would be uneasy about not knowing what damage could have been done to the engine with someone possibly taking it to the red line in every gear.

Sorry, don't mean to be pesamistic.

+1.

If it still puts a grin on your face in driving it - then keep it!

its suprising how much abuse cars can take, a few days of having its bits thrashed off wouldnt have done any harm

I sort of agree, but at least who ever owned the car before actually OWNED IT, ie they took some sort of pride/car in it.?

Yes I agree that previous owners may have driven it hard, but theres a difference between an actual owner who cares about their own property..well IMO.

I doubt people fork out 12 grand to destroy/thrash/trash it where as thieves..well they don't give a monkeys do they??

(well unless they are planning to sell it etc)

perhaps, but ive seen cars destroyed over a weekend on a track :dapprove:

I remember a few years back a colleague of mine at the time had his car stolen for just 3 or 4 hours. They had actually given it that much stick the engine had overheated and they managed to warp the head/blow the head gasket.:dapprove: Of course, this was repaired, but there were problems forever more then with other various bits...likely related.

Anyway, if it drives fine and the owner is happy then fair play keeping it.

No reason not to, I would just worry about future problems that may result from what went on when it was driven.

  172 cup
I can see both points of view, I'm gonna see how it goes and not make any rash decisions. Especially with the price of second hand cars these days! If someone offered me £5.5k I'd probably take it but I don't think I'm gonna stick my neck out to advertising it on Autotrader to get £4.5k!!!

Anyway, out for a drive now! Lets see how she goes...

Dude you do know we're not talking about your car yea ;)?

It'll be fine dude, don't let all the pessemists put you off. The important thing is to make sure it's not recorded, so you're not shafted when it comes to resale ;)

Wow lets not lose sight of the fact that its a car, yes a tin box with wheels and an engine.
On reading some of the stuff on here you would think someone had stolen your daughter!!

  172 cup
I've decided not to sell it......it still really goes, no different than before it was stolen thank god! I also took some photos yesterday to use if I did decide to sell it. When I loaded the photo's onto my computer I realised that I couldn't bring myself to sell it, especially with the rubbish money second hand cars are fetching now and how mint it looks with brand new wheels etc...

Cheers guys

LMAO!!!!! :lolup::lolup::lolup:

Yer I second that!!

Keep it, my brother in law finds that after buying a new car, giving it a full clean and polish and valet himself makes the car feel like his. I know the garage already did it for you but maybe you could try that if it doesnt feel like yours :)

Here we go then, hope this works!

This is the picture that has made me decide to keep my car, I think 1*2's look awesome from this angle. Especially when they're this shiney with brand new Turini's...! :)

Here's another picture of it sitting on my drive. There's not a scratch or stone chip in sight! And it still drives perfectly. I'm finally happy again :), just gotta hope the scumbag that nicked it gets put down now!
