good braking combination on the 172 for a reasonable price

Car  Golf TDI
im looking about for a new set of pads , discs , and maybe some braided brake lines . and tbh i aint that clued up on the best combination etc i havent got the biggest budget so anything reasonably priced .

^^ was just looking at these . just shy of £100 a front set from k tec , do you have these yourself ?

greenstuff on the 172 great improvment for road dont know what it will be like on a track

im not planning to go on track so that doesnt matter ! anyone with mintex pads on here ?? although they do look a bit cheap and cheerful . :S

you could save on discs if they don't actually need replacing, and the benefit of hoses is debatable (esp. on a road car)

you should see a big difference if you uprate the front pads and change to a good fluid, properly bled through the system

thanks chris . good help there . im looking at changing atleast my pads for the balck mountain run as my brakes are piss poor atm !

Ive heard the ferodo pads spark alot?? Id deffinatly reccomend the brembo discs, not too expensive and work very well. Will try and find a part number for you

tbh im going to opt for some cheap mintex pads for the front and rear , just for the time being until i have saved for a decent combination to fit . but i desparatly need to fit new pads now .

Thats oem replacement pads, i said Mintex extreme, have a look for those, had mintex extreme all round on my 106 gti, noticable improvement over stock kit

Im thinking about some brembo hc grooved discs. My concern is what they look like when they are bedded in. Strange i know, but are they grey like on the k-tec website, or do they scrub up silver if people know what i mean? does anyone have pics of brembo hc discs on their car?

ive never had sparks

DS25000 - brembo MAX discs and braided lines

Dont let people tell you brembo MAx arnt worth it cause they are :)

no they are 'high carbon' (HC)

which means the metal is inherently very dark

Yes, Spark.

Brembo's max and braided lines for sure! Don't be tempted by the greenstuff though - i thought they were fine untill i encountered massive fade a couple of weeks back so i'm on the look out for some new pads too
