GoodRidge Brake Lines for 172 Cup

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi All,
I have been trying to Fit my goodridge brake lines i have bought for my car. Problem is the rears dont appear to be right. I have checked the package and the package says it is for a 172/182/cup

I have a 172 Cup is there something i am missing here????

Also i purchased some Ferrodo ds2500 last number of the model of pads were 586 i think. I have Lucas calipers and was told these were the ones, The pads look identical to the ones taken off only problem is they dont fit properly, I have had to hammer one in but even then its too tight to work properly.

Can anyone Help?

Lol i did exactly the same thing, if you look under the car on the passengers side, by the rear wheel you should see those shorter pipes.

You need to file the edges off the pads mate so the sit in the caliper freely

Nice one, Thanks, Is there any reason why you have to do this..... Have ferrodo not relised there must be problem with the production?

Nevermind. Ill file them down its only 1mm

Thanks for the Advice tim but i think ill file the endges down as the shims in my opionion should really stay in

Thanks Anyway

Just to confirm what Tim has said, I have removed the shims from mine too as its what K-Tec told me to do. Just put plenty of copper slipon the back of the pads

mark fish told me to take them out.

im guessing if you have to file down brand new brake pads, you are not installing them as they were designed!

  ph1 172
well maybe they have adjusted their castings because the ones i fitted on monday were loose with just the shims out

hot metal expands remember, they maybe fine when cold, but squeal like hell when hot

i've said hunderds of times why they don't fit in

back plates are laser cut, so there is a tollerance inaccuracey there (not much)

YOU MUST REMOVE THE CARRIER PAD SHIMS, AND ON OCCASION FILE SOME MATERIAL OF THE EDGES OF THE BACK PLATES, THESE ARE RACE PADS REMEMBER, NOT OE ROAD PADS

and please don't do what someone did and actually REMOVE the back plate from the pad material, then ring me up wanting a refund! i did chuckle

he misread it on here is the only thing i can figure out!

"you have to remove material from the backplate"

not actually remove the friction material from the back plate!

Lol, I may be slightly blond sometimes but i cant ever see me EVER removing the backplate from the pad lol

I have about no more than 1m to remove, The shins allow the pad to move more freely dont they??

Would it not be better to file a mil from the pad and not take the shins out?

find me a clio race car with shims still in

i remove the shims AND file the back plate down,

i think the shims should come out...

My only issue is with you comparing a road car to a race car. A clio racer will have its brakes checked between races so any issues will be picked up quickly. A road car will do thousands of miles between checks!

there's probably about 100+ cars driving round like this, i've done god knows how many! if it wasn't safe, i wouldn't do it!

An here comes the Next problem!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH

The rear disks, I bought some Ktec sports ones, Now the washer that sits in the back behind the disk if i leave that on it i cant get my caliper on. Obviously it should not be taken of........ right???????

I swear this car is gonna get firebombed if it causes me any mroe issues. Ive only looked at it twice in 6 months and im already fcuked off with it

something odd going on there! you've only removed the pad carrier right? (2 x 17mm bolts)

you putting the washer on the right way round?

Yeah 2 Caliper bolts then the caliper slides off. Wind the Piston in, The Washer goes with the indent facing the disk.

Its so simple and straight forward yet i seem to be about 2mm out when i put the washer back in on the caliper bolts

  Lionel Richie
pad carrier yeah? not CALLIPER? ie the caliper is still on the car and you've only removed the pad carrier?

Yeah mate sorry, Carrier, Just a thought, how should they go on, Should i put them in the disks then slide them on, or should i but the washer on then slide the disks on to them, i did the latter but this may be the problem possibly, maybe that 2 mm is cos its not sat right???

i put the washer thing on the stub, then put the disc on

you sure its not just the calliper out of alignment, ie pull it towards you/push it away?
