Got my Baby Back - All 172/Cup Read

After 5 weeks of debate with Renault Uk over mega problems with my Cup, I picked it up today. I think I have solved the problem with the squished jacking points that seem to be turning up on Mk2 172/Cups. The Jack on my car has a flat top when it should really have a locating pin that goes through the hole on the sill jacking points.

The Renault head bummer check with other models of Clios and they had such jacks - with the locating pin in, and the checked 2 other 172s, which had flat tables! Renault gave me the proper jack for the car now. Check yours.

My Cup also had new seat runners, suspension top mount mods to stop the Cup Clunk , new front bumper and rear spoiler (both cracked paint) and for my troubles they painted my bonnet and polished buffed the whole car + added an extra years waranty!

Oh and if anybody wants info on how to make Clio mudflaps fit onto your 172 PM me for full details.

My dad has a Clio in Spain and he has the pin type.

When I took my car into the dealer to be checked they said id been using the wrong jack and after checking 3 of the cars in the showroom climbed down and said mine was the correct type......FLAT TYPE!!!!

I can feel a letter coming on again.....better put the restraining belts on me teddys!!!

Have not got a dig camera to take a picture of it. Needless to say, the new jack has a locating pin attached to the top of it which fits straight into the hole on the jacking point on the car. This locating pin jack came out the boot of a brand new authentique parked in the showroom. It is now in my car!

Neil - I think I may be meeting up with The_Gza in Falkirk -Cup- to check out his K-tec cat back system. If you fancy coming along, PM me.

I normally use a trolley jack as theyre more stable than a scissor jack, anyone know the best place to jack a 172 mk2 from with a trolley jack?

The sill jacking point bent on me when I last tried to use it and the 172 too low to use ramps!

My point exactly! Flat top jacks eg. trolly jacks and the jack that came with my Cup are wrong, and thats why we are getting bent jack points on the sill! Best to get a proper jack from Renault thats for the car. It is quite stabble, but never used a trolly jack on the car yet so dont know the best place to put it mate.

I had both these done. The clunk will be gone but you will still got a knocking when cornering hard. Its not a cup only problem, its all 172/Cups from a certain date onwards I believe.

I give the seat a couple of months before it starts to rattle again. Mine lasted about that long :(

Good to hear they have sorted everything out. It give hope to us all :D

Put a block of wood under the front of the ramp to shallow out the angle and to provide a step-up to the ramps.. works for me..
