And I am on nights on Friday so got all day to drive the car, wonder how many mile Ill do on Friday.

Just got to 450 on my 172 ive had for 2 weeks and decided to have a bit of excitement and letting her go up to 5/5500 revs. Holy Cheesy c*ck batman, she flies. Just hold on, and off you go. Very impressed and cant watit for 650 to be up and try the other few 000k revs!

You should have caned it from new, Im afraid youve f**ked it now they are always slower if you run them in;)

Agreed, get caning them lads so there is no resistance later on.
If you treat them with kid gloves they get used to it and dont want to give you the full rev range when you need it. I dont mean mistreat them but they are big old engines and wont hurt to bounce off the limiter when shes at racing temperature just dont thrash it from cold. I think the reason for this lag on cars which have had the traditional run in period is because the valves wear a groove at the most common revs then creates resistance when you increase the revs. Could be bollox but its a theory!
