By "PCI" I assume he means PCI-E (Express)?? As you can actually get AGP, PCI and PCI-E cards.

If the motherboard is older than 12 months then it's highly probable it's AGP.

The AGP slots are normally a different colour to the pci slots but the brown is also the colour normally used for the modem riser slot.

yer brown slots are normally closer to the center of the main board , the problem i had was on my 750mhz machine is had a agp , but when i got my 2000mhz machine , the agps have changed.

they basically put the agp socket in the oposit way, ended up buying a newer gfx card

Also rember thers agp x 1 , 2, 3 , 4 and 8 now i think

what spec machine do u have ?

Is the brown one about the same length as the white ones but set back further? If so its an AGP slot. the other white ones are normal PCI slots.

Brown is used for AGP and modem riser slots i think i dunno i use motherboards with odd coloured slots so i cant remember what colour things are normally. If the brown one is rather small its not an agp port.

If its fairly long and set further into the board its an agp slot adn you need an agp card. If its not you need a pci card. althoguh the speed of pci cards is terrible you cant get anything capable of running new games really not at decent levels anyway. It'd really be new computer time.

Basically AGP and PCI-E allow for greater amounts of data tp be processed by the graphics card, AGP is up to 12/14Gb/sec, PCI-E is the newer of the 2 and I think is 16GB/sec plus the cards that us it are more powerful than those that use AGP.

Find out what motherboard he has that'll make it easier to find out.
