Grating sound from engine on gentle revving - hydraulic tappets?

Hi

I've got a weird kind of grating sound coming from my engine when gently revving the car. It happens around 2000-3000 revs.

Had it looked at briefly and the guy said it might be the hydraulic tappets?

Do 172 cups have a camshaft and timing belt..... I was under the impression they dont. Another guy said it could be the timing belt catching?

If it is the tappets am I damaging my car by driving it, as they guy said its do with the valves and the oil pressure or something like that?

Yes the Cup has a timing belt. If you havent had it replaced already, do it NOW. It's WELL overdue.

I paid £390 to get the Camblet and Aux belt replaced in Renault in Inverness for my 172 Cup 4 weeks ago.

52 plate, 67,000 miles

Cambelt is 2 years overdue

and should be on it's 2/3 aux belt! Due at 36k/ 5 years

thing is its been in to renault since that mileage and they never said anything? And they never changed it?

book it ASAP. If it snaps your engine is fucked. It's supposed to be 5 years or 74000, whatever is the soonest. Yours is more than a year overdue.

check the bolts holding the fuel rail guard on my mates was making a grinding noise turned out both bolts were loose and it was rattling about!, weird!

Check the spark plugs are tight too! And the dephaser pulley when changing the cam-belt!

PS renault kitchens burnley quoted £600 to do the timing belt!!
