Grooved/Vented disks

Car  172cup turbo & rx8
Edit: title is ment to read grooved or drilled

Can someone please explain to me in simpleman terms why not to go for grooved or drilled disks on there 1*2 track cars

I was under the impression that they where used to disperse the heat from under the pad during heavy braking thus preventing fade:S

I understand they will reduce the surface area of the pad but realistically the area you will be loosing under the pad at any one time must be tiny
