guide for sorting heater in mk1s

  mk1 RT
as above does anyone have the guide (im sure there was one) as i need to sort both out this weekend as

white 3 dr only speed 3 works on main fans not at the windscreen i think that i dislodged the cable on the controls for that when i put the hu in

red 5 dr only speed 1 works and the rest is fine but speed 3 is idealy needed

cheers Rob

I had the same problem with mine. All I did was clean the whole thing up and with the connectors just wirewooled them! Make sure everthing is spotless-it worked for me

Try the connections at the back of trhe heater panal first, easier to get to.

if you remove the slam panal (cus its the bit the bonnet slams onto ;)) you need to remove the wipers etc, easier to try the easier options first

i have sorted the red one it all works fine but the white thing is buggered as some dumb ass has hacked the wiring to by pass the plug when it melted.

i will be after a new clio same shape 1.4rt or 1.8 16v/rsi in the new year and then strip this one for spares so if anyone needs any bits from a white 3dr rt just ask

Best i can find is this:

I done my matrix yesterday . Note > do not follow the Haynes maunual!

1 remove the wipers
2 remove the wiper linkages
3 undo the heater blower securing bolts as these hold in the air
distribution unit and take of the steering wheel
4 inside the car remove the top facia panel
5 remove the securing clips (there are 3 on a clio rt)
6 remove the radio cassette housing and centre console
7 undo the 5 securing bolts 2 @ each end of the dash and one behind the
centre console
8 pull the dash forward enough so that the air distribution unit can be
moved
9 diconnect the hoses for the engine bay that connect to the heater matrix
10 unclip the matrix and slide the new one in (with a bit of a struggle)
11 refit everything and fill up the car with coolant
should now work a treat.
The haynes' manual tells you to take the dash out of the car do not it will
just be more of a hassle to put back in.
At last I have heat now and on the way to work this morning I had to turn
the heat off because it was just to hot!!!!!

Did you have a probem with the level of heat coming out of your heater Matt? I think I have a problem with mine because after my 16 mile drive to college every morning I only have warmish heat coming out of my heater, barely enough to keep me warm.
