Specs+Dock you're asking too much for £1k imo. Dockable laptops come with a premier attached, nearest thing on a quick search with a Dell Lattitude E6420 £1020 is a mid range sandybridge i5 and 4GB of ram. Haven't looked at HP but 6 months ago they were the same.
Then there's the cost of the dock attached too, most of the new dell docks will run two monitors no problem.
The ones we've had were nasty Lenovo ones...and they would have issues whereby the cursor would go to top right of screen in Word and render mouse unusable. They were crock of s**t. Prefer docking stations all day long.
They may not be pretty but I'd be buying a Lenovo of some sort, either something like a t420 or whatever the equiv of that is now, or take a look at the x series.
Build like tanks and good support for them.
The dells aren't bad either, I just prefer the think pads.
