Having a nightmare day!! My usb snapped, any helping thoughts?

My usb snapped off earlier as I set the laptop down and kicked it! the usb bit is completely off so just leaving the pcb intact, so Im hoping the memory isn't affected.
No, I dont make copies or saves elsewhere and it has alot of work I need off it, has anyone got any good advice on what I could do?
Saw this http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/267/2 but I am DEFINATELY not that skilled with a soldering iron to attepmt that.

Anyone know where to go, what to do etc??.......Nightmare
