HDD Q

Car  Skoda Fabia vRS
just got a new PC, and a lot of the time the hard drive is churning away

im wondering if this is the restore feature in windows doing back ups all the time, it doesnt seem to slow anything down but its really annoying

is this what is it ?

If you have Vista, it's probably Search?

I turn it off from scanning anything but the start menu - it's stupid. It's MAJORLY flawed compared to Spotlight on OSX.. but hey..

Could you have anti virus with active shield monitoring on where it constantly scans files.

ive turned off most of the things that want to start with windows

is there any way to turn indexing off, it might be that

Go to an Explorer window, press 'Alt' on the keyboard and then in the window click 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options' and the right tab is the 'Search' options and you can turn it off there.

There is probably an easier way but that should work anyway.

Strip it down to the bare bones :) removing everything you don't use - turn services off you don't need. Sort out the start-up in msconfig and yeah get rid of indexing.
