Head unit code Knightmare!

What is the deal with the standard head unit?!

It just says code and wont do anything.
Ive got the code off Renault, but I cant enter it.
I pulled the fuse out hoping it would reset it back to default mode
and let me enter the code, no such luck!
The guys at Renault Notts told me it would work.

They also told me that the normal way is to turn the ignition on
and wait an hour, I dont want a flat battery, or my car nicked
from outside my house.

Any Suggestions?

I read in the manual each time you enter an incorrect code you have to wait a further amount of time and each time you enter another incorrect one it adds up until you have to wait an hour or something. If you remove power to it, after a while it should let you enter the code.

Disconnecting battery will do nothin at all.
The unit needs timing out which basically means leavin it on for up to 24 hours sometimes. we decode radios where i work and it cost about twenty quid. you then get a new code for the radio

It wont even give me 0000 in order to enter the code
I do have the steering controls and do know how to enter it,
it just wont let me.

Looks like i'll either have to throw money at renault,
or buy a new head unit!

Ive now left the head unit switched on,
I'll give an hour and a bit see if that works.

I needs timing out. when its timed out it will come up with 0000 then you can enter the code using the numbers on the front of the unit. if the first number of the code is 6 for instance then you need to press the number one six times for it to come up with the number 6 in the display.

hopefully that will sort it.

At least my exaltos are in at the garage,
one thing to be happy about.

thought it said error if the code was wrong then went to code when it was ready for you to re-enter the code? then you do as dan r said

Renault head units have a double time out function - if you type the wrong code more than 3 times it will lock up. Each attempt after this will double up in time before you can re-enter the code again....ie another incorrect attempt will give you a 2 min delay before you can re-enter the code again - then 4 min after and 8 min after that etc etc

Ive left it for over an hour and still nothing!

How am I supposed to leave it swithed on for 24 hours
without the keys in the ignition?

The stereo was the last thing on my mind as far as mods
are concerened.

Renault charged me the best part of 20quid for the code,
however they neglected to tell me it was in the service manual.

Once you typed in the code. hold the button at the base of the stalk controls until it beeps then wallah!

I rang 3 Renault garages in S.Wales and one in Kiddiminster and they all charged £10
Got it from Cardiff Renault for a tenner

Im gonna stop going in renault for anything other than parts.

Ive had a s**t day one of my neighbours has scraped my wheel arch parking, ive only had the car a week and a half.

Im not having much luck today.
