Headunit choices

Looking for some advice on an aftermarket headinit.

I have a cheap one that now that connects up to my iPhone and is actually great but with the new penalty for using a phone I've decided I need one with the ability to take calls over Bluetooth.

There's hundreds of options I know but was just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a single DIN unit that will connect to an iPhone and do calls etc, can't see a huge difference between the £70 and £250 ones personally hence asking for some advice!

Huge amount of features for not a lot of cash. Going to look at it this week in halfords to see how good the buttons are etc

Oooo DAB! I quite like the Alpine units had them before will take a look.

I got a pioneer headunit for £40 from halfords, should have been about 100 but was missing the box and Bluetooth mic. Got a mic off amazon for 6 quid and everything works fine. Might be worth a check in your local one for any in clearance maybe.

I had one. Really good and loads of options. I felt Kenwoods menu system was odd though.

Looking to get a new headunit myself so I can start getting more use out my Spotify!

A £50 one from halfords that has bluetooth and is compatible with iphones will do the same job as one that is £150, I wouldn't bother going for an expensive one unless you're upgrading the speakers and fitting an amp etc.

Do you know if any are compatible with controls behind the steering wheels? (Volume mute etc)

Most of them are compatible with the steering wheel controls these days, i'd be surprised if you could buy one brand new that wasn't. The thing to check is if it mentions "steering wheel control ready" or "steering wheel input" anywhere in the description, which indicates it will be compatible. The one thing you should know is that you will need to buy a steering wheel adapter in addition to making sure the headunit is steering wheel control compatible. The cable itself was around £30 for my 197 iirc.

Thanks for the info. Not looking for anything fancy. Just Bluetooth to make use of my spotify and preferably compatable with the original controls.

Been a while since I fitted a head unit . Assuming it still needs an adaptor for the wiring loom and then one of those steering wheel control adaptors as well

Yeah, you'll need the right adapter for the headunit to car loom, and an extra couple of wires to hook up the steering controls.
The dash-top display is going to be mostly redundant, although it will keep giving you time and temperature. To keep audio info on that display would need a much higher outlay for cables and headunit.
