heater knob stuck

my heater knob that directs the air flow is stuck, its fixed on blowing out of the vents only, and i really need it to aim at the windscreen especially when the weathers like it is at the mo. ive had a good luck behind the knob and ive traced the wire back but it just doesnt seem to want to move. has anyone else had this problem.....what can i do to fix it?

its mechanical i think.... the whole panel pulls out if you take out the little torx bolts ( think its 2 of them??) so maybe the linkage is jammed or something.... you will be able to see that with it pulled out.
