Heatshield Question

One or both of the rear heatshields on our 182 are rattling. Just so I am describing them correctly, they are the heatshields above the back boxes of the exhaust.

I have had a look at them and they are loose and can be moved up and down. This creates a rattle when driving and going over speed humps and the like. When looking at the heatshield itself there is a hole in each one about the size of a ten pence piece with a screw thread coming from above down through the hole. There is nothing actually holding this part of the heatshield to anything, hence why it is rattling and it is the same on both sides so I have nothing to compare against.

Can anybody tell me what (if anything??!!) should be securing the heatshield. Also, is it an easy fix or best sorting under warranty.

A nut holds them in place sounds like its just come off.

Just get it done under warently.

I bet the heatshield has ripped around the nut, the nut is prob still there just not holding anything!

Under warrenty but I just got a repair washer that was bigger that the nut and put that on to hold it

Thanks for your help. I think it may have ripped around the nut as there does look to be a nut above it but the hole in the heatshield is bigger than the nut!!! I will take it to Renault and see what they say as it's still under warranty.

Seems to be a rather common fault! Had mine done under warranty, bolts still there but heat shield was hanging down. Relief really as thought my back box was fooked!

Mine isn't quite hanging down, it is still held up but is loose enough to bang against the metal above it which is rather annoying! Will get the Renault dealer to have a look!!
