Heavy clutch pedal on clio 182 2004

  Clio 182
Hi all,
I've just purchased a clio sport 182 on a 2004 plate the other day and the first thing I noticed is how heavy the clutch pedal is compared to most other cars I've had-none of course being as quick or as powerfull as the clio. Is this normal for this clio to have a heavy clutch being a sport 182?
Kindest regards
Darren
(I appologise in advance If i've posted this in the wrong area-My first day so i'm getting used to the site)

Normal, nothing else i have driven has a clutch as heavy as them.

Clios are cable clutches so they are alot stiffer to hydraulic ones ;).

I couldnt beleive it when I saw the 182 had a clutch cable!. I wonder why they've not used hydraulic ones?. Do they use a cable on the 197?.

Cheers guys- thats a relief!!
Sure i'll get used to it in no time.
And thanks for the outstanding prompt replies! Joined another clio forum and it was useless! looks like this one is the way forward!

I don't think anything of it anymore, untill I get in another car and put my foot through the floor. haha!

well quoted JRS182 & TheEvilGiraffe- certainly did nearly put my left foot through the floor when I got into a customers car to deliver it back! lol

I remember at work a few years ago, had to drive a ford cmax and i thought that the clutch was broken because it went to the floor so easily.

I have been driving a civic for the last week, jumped back in the 182 last night and i had forgot how heavy the clutch was lol, also how heavy the steering is vs a type r :S

Its even heavier in my williams :S

I thought there was a problem on my 182 too when I bought it as my ph2 172 is so much easier. Totally different.

See I'm the opposite, my 182 clutch seems light but my mates 172 clutch seems heavy as f**k. Maybe his has had a aftermarket clutch put in at some point.

I thought they were all heavy. Certainly take a bit of getting used to.

Thats the first thing i noticed when i got my first 172 , how heavy the clutch was so was used to it when i got my 182 . Also how heavy the steering is . To be honest i prefer a heavier clutch and steering . I hate over assisted power steering that you can literally move with one finger , it just doesn't feel right. Also when i've had courtesy cars i've nearly put my foot through the floor when the clutch is too light , it takes some getting used to after having a 1*2 for so long .

My old 172 took me a month to get used to the clutch however the 182 I just jumped in a drove no problem. May be all in my head but has the 182 got a lighter feel to it ?

  182
Mines heavier than my friends 182, but his isn't exactly light. Agree with the comments of other cars, after driving a company car for over a week I stalled mine when I got back in as I wasn't used to the clutch springing up ha.

Mines fine clutch and cable change sorted mine out
From memory, you had that awful creeking in your clutch cable didn't you?

Mine's always been fine, just a little stiffer than the clutch from my last dci, but does creek from time to time :dapprove:

Sat in a Trophy at a meet about 2 years ago and I literally couldn't press the pedal in far enough to get it into gear

^^wasn't me tigger.:) well not as far as i can remember

i had a very noisey release bearing before ii changed the clutch.

When I got my 182 (used to drive a 1.2 clio) my left foot would always go numb if I was in traffic from the constant clutch use but now a fair few months on that is no longer an issue. Also feel like my left leg could smash a brick in half from the work out

Had this on my megane went really heavy/squeaked and bait notchy not smooth to depress. Changed the cable and it was so much lighter. Took the old one apart found it very hard to move the cable in and out of its tube it was full of dirt and rubber that had gathered over the years. Think I've got to do the same on my 182 as my left leg is twice the size of my right.

Heavy clutch = awful in traffic.

Especially when you have a bad left Knee Jamie. I've actually thought about selling the car because of it, think my physio thinks I'm over-exaggerating the pain the clutch in a Clio can bring in my knee...

I have a really bad left knee. Hasn't cause me any problems since not owning a mk2 (and mine had a brand new clutch).

The 172/182 is pretty heavy, It's because it's a cable setup, the 197 is easy with hydraulics doing the hard work, although it does have a lot less feedback/feel to it

Heavy as well, but I like it, apart from in traffic.

If I get round to changing the clutch and clutch cable I'll be interested to know if it makes much of a difference. The clutch pedal gets stuck in stages in hot weather.

my clutch is heavy on my 1.4 16v as well. Where as my friends old 1.2 was completely different. Doesn't bother me though

I thought I was the only one with a heavy clutch pedal, I nearly stalled it 3 times on test drive and did for about a month
