Help, 172 won't start

I have just gone to start the car as I have a guy at work interested in buying and it won't start. It turns over but then stops like the immob is stuck on. Both keys lock and unlock the car. It did have a flat battery a while.

Any help appreciated.

Key in the ignition, turn it on (but don't start the car). Does the red LED go out or stay on?

There's your issue then... comms fault on CAN

How do I go about getting it sorted?

Start by looking for broken wires, searching this site for other people that have had similar issues.

Comms fault could just be earth issue. Take a jump lead from the negative terminal on the battery and attach it to the gearbox casing and then try and start it.

If it's that then it's one of the gearbox earths which are very common to corrode or snap.
