Help . . . I'm Freezing - loss of heating

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
I'm currently having problems with my automatic climate control on my 172. Everything is working apart from the fans, . . . the display is on and the fan speed goes up in bars on the display but I get no warm air blown through into the cabin!! . . . not good in this weather! :S

Has anybody had this problem before? is it a fuse that has gone . . . checked the manual and there is no indication of a fuse for the climate control fans! or is it more likely to be busted fans or an electrical fault? any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Al, I've checked all the fuses, pulled them all out one by one to check the filament but they are all ok. It was working fine up to a couple of days ago, was wondering if i could have knackered something or overloaded something by having it on a high heat setting recently?!

I know this happened to me although it was only on a 1.2 so i dont know if it'll be the same problem...but the mechanic next door just took the panel off below the window and hit a blower/box type thing and it all started working again...sumert to do with it getting jammed!!

I Took my 172 to local garage because i was getting a buzzing noise coming from inside the cabin " was doing my head in " it turned out to be a fan located where the light is, the noise was that bad i disconnected it and guess what happened - fans still worked but blow cold, connected again warm but with a buzz, maybe you could check that

The fuse that controls the heater blower also controls the heated rear screen. Its a 60a fuse in the black E box behind the battery.

The heater blower and resistor pack are under the front scuttle panel on the drivers side.
Open the bonnet look to the back left immediately under the windscreen, pull this panel out and the motor assembly is underneath.

There are two removable sections accessed by 5mm headed screws. the larger is access to the pollen filter, remove this to give you room to work (might as well clean/change it while its out) and the smaller panel has the resistor unit on it.
Remove this and CAREFULLY clean up the two/three metal strips that comprise the resistor pack MAKE SURE THE IGNITION IS OFF FIRST

You can also check the operation of the fan blower and the recirculation flap before you reinstall the pollen filter.

When you re-assemble the cover, make sure the white plastic drain giuide is located in the slots at the bottom of the screen and check the drain hole is clean and clear.

This not being so, is the likely cause of your problem in the first place.
Dont park under trees !!! lol

Thanks for the detailed info Brian, just what I needed, will check it out now. If I clean up the resistor should that sort out my problem?
