Help me diagnose? (Video inside)

Rightio, I'm planning on visiting Dan@SJM soon as possible for a full health check, because there are a few niggling things with the 182 I've just bought that I want to get checked out/sorted. However, just to confirm/ease my worries, I've taken a video of me starting the car this morning, and the noise I'm getting. It sounds like it might be the dephaser, it's similar to other video's I've seen, however it's only noisy for about half a minute to a minute, after which the noise becomes almost unnoticeable. The noise also doesn't occur when starting the car warm, only when cold.

Also, to add to this, this morning for the first time my emissions light came on, I searched around here, tried a short drive, tried giving it some clean starts and it's not going.

Any help with these appreciated, thanks.

Does sound a little dephaser'y if that's a word ! Can you vouch for the oil that's been used ? Obviously if its wrong it may be too thick or thin !
This cause be causing the noise ! Needs a full diag either way but worth doing a oil and filter !

The high pitched whine when you first started it? Ive always had this when its cold on my current 172 and my last. your dephaser wouldnt be making a noise until the oil was warm and it would sound alot worse than that.

I can't unfortunately, I've only just bought the car. I plan on getting it fully serviced and tidied up asap, but just wanted to know if I'm gonna have to pay out for belts, seeing as they've got 3 years/over 50k left on them.

FYI both of mine also done this after I had the belts done and fresh oil.

the high pitched wine is just the water pump etc. They all do it. Sounds fine to me. My engine sounds exactly the same and has just produced a strong 180bhp on the rollers standard.

Is this common for all 1*2's, or just the ones you've owned? If it's normal then that's good news with regard to saving me a whole lotta cash, but bad news that my car sounds like s**t every time I turn it on.

Mine makes like a belt whine noise when started up from cold , I had the belts done my Birchdown so that's nothing I think seams everyone has it !

I thought I could hear a little rattle , maybe just hearing things !

Wont do any harm making sure it has the right oil and a new filter I spose ! It's a job you can do at home mate plenty of guides !

SDame here, bit of a whine. Dephaser doesnt knock until oil is warm, and thats not a knock on that vid.

I'd give it an oil flush and consider a new aux belt kit as they are every 36k, not 70k like cambelts
