Righto, when I first got the car there was a little water coming through one of the gromits near the rear light clusters - sealed it in place jobs a good un...

Few weeks ago I noticed the windows take forever to demist - after owning many mk1's thats always a well known sign (to me anyway lol) that waters creeping in.

Thought it was the gromit again - nope!

THIS THING IS KILLING ME SLOWLY!

This is how the car is at the moment

and this is the area we're interested in!

water is coming down from the cavity shown with my epic photoshop skills

my question is whats upthat cavity? its deffo coming from that high up.

Please note I took the aerial off the roof and masked it, masked the tailgate connectors so as far as I'm aware there is nothing else that high up that can let water in! its not the rear windows..

The ONLY thing I can think of is those removable strips over the rear windows - I'm assuming thats something to do with fitting the windows but is there any holes at all up there? does anyone know?

Passenger side only this - drivers side is dry as a whistle.

HELP ME PLEASE! I'm at the end of my rope on this one!

Rear window seal. Seem to remember Fred saying there were issues with some with the bonding

100% not the rear window, one of the first places I looked at annoyingly!

Sit in the boot daz, get a mate to put the hose on the car nice and close up, do a bit at a time, leaving 30 secs or so inbetween each one.

Making sure he only does a little bit at a time you'll figure out where its coming from roughly then have less surface area to try to find it. :)

doesn't work like that as its impossible to look up that cavity!

I've chased water before so I'm a dab hand at provoking it :)

Jet wash produces less water than when it rains, if I park the car downhill slightly it does it more which suggests to me its a smallish hole and the more constant rain than a 5 min jet wash can produce..

I just want to know really for now whats under those strips above the rear windows?

The inside of the rear arches are dry as a bone and dirty/dusty so I'd see water trails if that was at fault, so I'm still ruling out the windows

They just clip off mate 2 second jon, the only thing that's underneath is spot welds, unless the seam sealer is cracked it won't be under there.

Take it easy taking them off tho.
