HELP NEEDED URGENTLY!

  145db Euro'd clio
right. basically. was working on the car as you do. just chilling with some music. someone then rings me and i get that buzzing sound come through the speakers. so i immediatly turn the ignition off. after i get off the phone. i have this continuing buzzing. so i thought what the hell, so went into the boot and moved the sub around to have a look at the wiring on the amp thats screwed to the sub box. the sub all of a sudden makes a huge thump and the cone keeps moving in and out slowly to the full excursion. i immediatly turn the ignition off and have a look at all the wiring. everything seems okay and i even checked under the bonnet and back of head unit etc. i then turn ignition back on and the buzzing just gets increasingly louder and it keeps doing this buzzing thing. even the 6x9's are doing it. it almost sounds like feedback you get from a micraphone or guitar. i have checked EVERYTHING. and have narrowed it down to the amp as i hooked up another smaller amp to my sub and it was fine. everthing is connected correctly and all external fuses seem fine. the amp is a legacy LA688 and only about a month old so this has confused me beyond belief. any suggestions as to what is wrong? any bit of help would be greatly appreciated! sorry for the essay
Marc

would it make this big thumping noise though? and i mean, its playing fine on the other amp. shall i check all the grounding then and maybe fiddle with all that?

Yeah, just check all the wiring, try changing grounding points.

Edit: just bothered reading all of your post, add some paragraphs man!

Surely if one of the amps is fine, its obvious the buzzy amp is fucked

thats were it is at the moment. i have even rubbed it with some wet and dry so its metal on metal. Its totally confused me. im usually good with ICE and i dont even know were to start on this. i think it is the amp thats buggered. i'll look into it further tomorrow. man im so confused!! :(

ermm mate open up the amp.. im assuming that would be the problem considering ur sub works with the other amp...send me a pic of it when its opened up and can take it from there

It's fucked buddy. The sub moving in and out will have been it recieving 12V from the battery. And now it's humming due to the grounding being nubbed on it.

whats does this mean then? the amp is fucked? i just dont understand how it can go from working fine one second. to being completly f**ked the next?

Very simply dude.

You put 12v into the amp with no out, no ground, thus it send the p.d into the sub, the noise you heard. I wouldn't be surprised if you fried the voice coils on the sub.

Things to do now;

Not use the amp again. Do not turnt he system on with it plugged in.

Push in the dust cap on the sub, if tehre is resistance or crunchy sound it's fubbard/get a multimeter and check the Ohm accros the end of it, see if it matches with what it origonaly had. Do the same to all of you're other speakers.

Open up the amp. Have a look at the inside, see if there is anything obvious gone. There should be. Depending on how much it cost originally and what's gone ti might/might not be worth repairing.

And dw about it. It happens to everyone man. I've blown an amp in my time. Just chalk it up and move on. :)

If its a month old send it back. Opening it may void your warranty so becareful and check first IMO.

BTW, my earthing point is one of the rear seat belt bolts. Never had any issues with it and its nicely hiden from view too.

They'll tell him to do one when they open it, worth a try though.

And i guess wehn he "moved it around" the earth became dislodged from the back (note: never move it around when it's wired in and live).

i have opened up the amp and cant see anything obviously wrong with it, but then again, im not too sure what im looking for. Its really annoyed me especially as i've just pumped money into my ICE and its gone and fucked both 6x9s and door speakers (sub seems okay no noise or resistance when pushing dust cap in. does anyone know anyone that will repair amps local to me (bucks area) or is it just worth buying a new amp. if so, is tere any that people would reccommend? and has anyone used any of THE LOUDEST.COM stuff? i've heard some good things about them and their 3000watt (1000watt rms) sub seems very tempting

loudest.com are utter s**t. No more needed.

Get onto talkaudio.co.uk mate. Lads will help you out with your problem, get pics of the amp up, someoen will tell you next step etc.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!! its nothing to do with the amp. i checked everything and it seemed fine. what i didnt check was the headunit. plugged amp and sub in today and everything worked fine as it had done before hand. it puzzled me to say the least! anyway, i was like WTF?!?!?!?!?! so i took the headunit out and as i did, everything cut back into sh*te mode and cut out with the thumping again. one of my mates had said to check my remote lead, everything there was fine, after a little fiddle, i have realised that it is all on were the RCA leads connect to the back of the headunit. if i wiggle it and hold it in a certain position, it plays fine. if i let go, it screws it up!

Has anyone else had this problem?
I could understand if i had a cheap sh*tty HU but its the Pioneer DEH-P7000UB
Not cheap!!
You recon halfords will give me a replacement? (dont really want them fixing it as they know f*ck all and are probably the ones that screwed it up in the first place!)
Anyone else had to deal with halfords in a similar situation?
cheers guys

already tired. they both do the same thing. One is an autoleads wire and the our is an american legacy. so again, not cheapy options

if its older than a month theyll send it for repair, and they send it to AEL (connects 2) who deal with the majority of the countries companies when it comes to repairs

thats what i thought aswell but i have tried everything and it just doesnt seem to be anything other than the HU

Interesting.

It's going to be related to the ground from the headunit into the connector.

Try grounding the headunit directly to the battery/appropriate point on the chassis.

This should solve it dude.

  145db Euro'd clio
how do i ground it? just find the ground lead and lead it to the chassis? or ground it off the cage? i swear it must be the RCA outputs though as when i fiddle with them they make a crackling noise as if the connection is dodgy?

Okay. Try a different RCA cable first. THe grounding sheeth on it mihgt of come loose.

And if that fails ground from the cage, to the chassis or battery. There should be a point on the HU you can ground from, i've never dealt with yours specificly so i'm not sure where.

The problem may well be the famous Pioneer earth track issue....

Had a few similar issues lately on other forums, (its that time of year when people are messing), will go find a link....

Thats assuming you wish to fix it without stripping it or spending any money....
