Help new on PC gaming

I've never played online gaming on this PC yet as it's fairly new, but i did play BF2142 few years back and it was f@@@ing awsome. where can i buy games and what do i need to do to set up for it. A new user name? it's been a long time since i've played on the PC.

Steam is f**king excellent. Such an awesome way to maintain and play your games. I especially love how you can always download a game you own, always up-to-date. No need to hunt around for DVDs after a rebuild. No need to patch.

Unfortunately it seems that Valve seem to have totally forgotten about Half-Life. This saddens me immensely.

That's practically all you need for PC gaming mate. You get all of your games through Steam, all your friends and updates etc. It's awesome.

Just remember, never tick the button that says "Save my payment information so checkout is easy next time" if paying by credit/debit card

Well, not really. When Steam goes down you can't play L4D/L4D2 because you need it to get onto servers etc. or join friend's games. Its so stupid.

That having been said, Steam does seem a bit more stable than PSN.

how does the patches and updates and so on and so on, does Steam do everything?

I know when i had BF2142 i had to get Patches, add ons and other things for me just to play it

steam does it all, you just download it and it will come with all the patches already pre-applied

You can blame consoles for that one. They use the same interface really as I don't think console users would of been able to figure out how to refresh and connect to servers like PC users.

Same for MW2 iirc. You can't just order a dedicated server can you? Has to be hosted by a player. What a load of s**te, if i wanted my bullet reg to be like cheese I'd of played it on a console. Consoles are dumbing down online gaming :dead:

Wish that HL deal was available before Portal 2. I'd of had that straight away.
