And this week i'm going to clean it all up ready for the summer. What polish is best to use? I've briefly tried AG SRP but it did absolutely nothing.

Is there a specific product to use??

Moochas Grassy ass.

Will I have to order that online or will Halfords/Roadrunner/Motaman sell it?

Really?? I used to use that stuff on the bumpers of my dads 1980 Cortina Estate....

In fact he may still have some! I'll give that a bash as they sell that in the corner shop.

AG SRP and Meguiars NXT metal polish work great after other more abbrasive metal polishes to refine the finish.

I would get Autosol or Autoglym Metal Polish if you want larger quanties as it comes in 325ml bottles and use one of those first. You can them follow up with the Super Resin or Meguiars NXT metal polishes to refine the finish and increase the shine a touch. Working through the abrasive levels will finish the polished bits to a higher shine. A good friend of mine is a metal polisher and the same advice is what he gives to his customers.

When you have reached the levels of gloss you want , just use a plush cloth and some QD spray to wipe it over as regular maintenance when you don't need to polish.

Ok, cheers Rich.

Obviously the guy I bought the car off had it all polished but in his own words lost interest in it and i've not cleaned anything on it since I bought it so the engine is starting to look really shitty. Will the lack of effort have a lasting effect?? I really don't want to undo all his hard work...

You should be able to bring it back up, any pics of how it looks now?

Once something has been polished elbow grease will bring it back up, the only variable is how much effort it takes, Sometimes it is easier to get it re-licked over agin properly by machine. A lot of my mates work is re polishing previously polished bits. There is a lacquer now that can take to polished metal works if you want a shine that lasts without work, it does dull the finish slightly.

That said if you have access to a rotary or Porter cable and some 4 inch spot pads they can be used to save yourself so sore fingers.

I've got an old pad that I can trim down to 4 inches. I never thought of that....

Do i use that with some autosol? Ir is it too abrasive for use with a machine?

No pics, sorry dude.

The Autosol will work lovely by machine. I use it on a light cut pad and then refine the finish with SRP on a polishing pad.
