Help required with alternator wiring

Car  clio 16v
ok I just took delivery of a reconditioned alternator, it was my understanding that on a valver alternator there are two wires that connect to it, the feed wire(positive) that bolts on and the wire with the plastic connector that plugs in at the top. However the alternator ive got has these two connections and an extra one marked negative. am I correct in thinking that the feed wire and the plug are the only ones that need wiring? I mean surely an alternator does not need earthed as it's connected to the battery which is already earthed.

Any advice appreciated.....

come on guys somebody must know. Obviously the one on the right marked positive attaches to the feed wire and the plug goes in the top, but what connects to the negetive on the right?

"Obviously the one on the right marked positive attaches to"

should read "Obviously the one on the left marked positive attaches to"

lol
