Help: Subs thumping

  S4 (320bhp) + Clio 16v

right i no this is a clio site but i got a problem with my system in my punto.

i had my RCAs and remote run down the passenger side along with the power cable but i had to put the RCAs and remote down the other side of the car because of well bad feed back. now when ive got my HU on the subs are fine but as soon as i turn the car on i get this thumping coming though the subs all the time. Ive got a kenwood kac-7021 / kenwood ps520 1000w amp and 2 x12" jl w3 v2. oh and one other thing is it dosnt do it when the radio is on.

can anyone help

Thanks

yup, i used to have this problem, was caused by two wires touching, soon as i extended one abit so that it wasnt touching the other one there was no problem, and hasnt been since, touch wood

I agree, its probably interference, you could try running your remote down the same side as your power cos they wont really affect each other.

i will try running the romote down with just the power as well. i just went and got to pairs of rcas they cost £25 each. its definatly something to do with Interference. ive got my remote split when i goes in the boot. i cut that down last night coz there was loads excess and it changed it a litlle bit. so i think it might be something to do with that. thanks for your suggestions.

You could also try just wiring up the amp by running the cables through the middle of the car. i.e over the seats, not tucked away under the interior panels. That way you can make sure that the cables are definately not touching. If you still have the problem then you can trace it to a dodgy cable/connection, otherwise the problem lies in the installation. Its really just a case of trial and error with these things, as anyone whos ever done an install will tell ya!

It will be a bad earth on your Amp if it does it when the RCAs are over the seats. I should have said that first.

If something isnt right with your sounds the first thing to do is check the earth.

i woudl say bad earth on the amps or the earth on the headunit is f**ked
what sort of earthing arrangement u got goin on in the boot?

ive got my kenwood ps amp thats got a earth coming from that to a good earth in the boot and my little rockford amp for the 6 x 9 which goes to another earth in the same place in the boot. i just noticed a minute ago when i knocked the rcas coming from the head unit together they made a load thump though my subs. if that makes sence. are you the matt that works at type k

yeah i work part time at type k :)

could be that the 2 connectors at an end of the rcas are touching when knocked or there not plugged in properly but i dont think that would account for the thumping when u switch tracks etc.

try with a different set of rcas just to eliminate that possible cause, also u coiuld ry earthing both amps to the same point with as shorter wire as possible, that cleared up some of the noise in my system

I used to have a Kenwood PS amp, and got thumps through the subs all the time. I bought a auto leads RCA filter and that sorted it. I tried everything and that was the only thing worked. Also Kenwood do a balanced RCA if you go to your dealer and ask about that. It might help.
