Help! wheel wobble.. New driveshafts, gearbox and hub.

  GW 197 cup
Hi, i really need some help or advice

Recently the clio picked up a weird wobble from the front left end which felt like loose wheel bolts after checking everything, i couldn't find anything which could cause it other than a damaged cv.. i replaced the driveshaft and the wobble persisted, i have also replaced a hub and checked every possible thing i could think of, i have tried different wheels, checked the discs ball joints and engine mounts, checked for play but i can't find anything obvious.

I noticed the wobble was only under load, if i put the clutch in and coast the wobble goes away, this lead me to believe it could be my diff or gearbox, i consulted a local garage and mechanic who lives nearby and they both agreed, after sourcing a new gearbox with 30k miles on it, i had it replaced but the wobble remains, both the garage and the mechanic have no idea what it is, the garage suggested i tried replacing the other off side drive shaft how ever i suspect this wont solve the problem as there are no obvious problems with it..

its starting to get slightly frustrating now as im throwing money at the car trying to get it fixed and nothing so far has worked and no one has manaed to pinpoint the problem so far, im not sure what to look for next and have no idea how to solve this issue.. any help would be much appreciated.

99% sure its not a missfire, feels more like somethings is loose or broken but can't source it. the engine sounds perfectly normal and feels normal, just the wobble which feels like its coming from the front left wheel.. also missfire would set of the engine management light?

What has dan said. I imagine you've been to see him?
I can't really think of anything, your car is the stupidly low one isn't it?

Mental. This is why specialists are what they are.

Did you have a band new clutch KIT fitted when you had the GB done? I had similar symptoms when my release bearing (part of a clutch kit) was poo'd.

I have tried to ring him a few times but he is really difficult to get hold off, I also dropped him an email about 3 weeks ago but never got a reply ;/, I'm going to try ring him again in the morning. Yeah that's one way to put it lol.

Hmm nope, not had the clutch done no, but I will look into it if I don't find anything else obvious first. Thnx

At bedford you're relatively near Danny519 I think, get the car booked in with him, even if you give him £50 to diagnose the problem, the guy knows clio's inside and out so he'll tell you what it is.

Danny solved 4 faults on my car whilst replacing a cambelt, all around that area, without even thinking about it he found a rattle, found two sensors were in the wrong way around, routed a cable correctly and replaced some missing bolts I hadn't even noticed.

yeah hes about 20 minutes from me down the bypass, just that i can't seem to get hold of him, and can't get the car too him at the moment... the only garages i have faith in with my car is renault and dan lol, but my mum kept moaning at me about the car and rang the garage for me and they offered to come out and look at it free, then they done the gearbox so i just went with it hoping dan would email me back. guess ill have to wait till morning and try and call again. thanks anyway lads.

you can just feel and hear it... also if the cars up on stands and you put it into gear you can see it sort of wobble, but only under load, if you spin the wheel normally or put the clutch in the wheel will still spin but it won't wobble, also does it with the wheel and disc off, which originaly led me to believe the hub could of been buggered.. but it didn't go away once it was changed.

If you really can't get hold of the old git and want to let me know, I'll ask around for you.

thanks mate, i'll give it another shot and call him first thing in the morning.. if not i will drop you a private message or something.. appreciate it mate.

O/s driveshaft
What makes you say o/s driveshaft? i have replaced the n/s as thats the side the issue appears to be coming from but i have also considered changing the o/s but thoguht i would ask here first.

Didn't see the bit about being low.... engine raiser a possibility? If not, a grinder and then build some sort of "shield" for the shaft boot.
i know being low puts a lot of stress on many components and its been this height for around 10,000 miles now so something must have gave way and i fear raising engine or car won't solve the problem now.

Sorry I put that in totally the wrong bloody thread.

That was meant for the one with the knackard shaft.

Low isn't the problem, I'm going with my original guess for now.

My opinion would be that making it very low has put extra stress on something that is causing it. From what you have said you seem to be able to see the movement when you have the car on stands / a ramp. Sounds like driveshaft to me, but you have changed that so it's a tough one. I would do as Rob says and get it to a specialist.

Thats what i thought, it has been at this height for around 10,000 miles now but something must have gave way, you can see the movement when you put it in gear and let the wheels spin, but when i pushed and pulled at it i couldn't find any play or movement which is what led me to change the hub after the drive shaft and checking the disk :/. yeah thats the plan, just thought i would post up anyway... finger crossed it don't cost me too much more now.
