help with knocking noise edde, jay172 etc

hi guys just wondered if you could help my mk2 172 when on a hill either reverse or setting off so you are bitting on the clutch control there is pop noise from the passenger side front it only does it once not all the time but it is starting to annoy me...i was told by my local garage that it was the driveshaft and they fitted me one but its still there..they say they are going to have to take 2-3 hours of labour to find out what problem truly is...what could it be guys and should i take it to renault for there investigation my local gordon lamb in chesterfield charge 35 inc vat to diagnose problems....help!!!

If it helps , i have a similar thing -:

1. strut top fix should cure it , waiting on one of them washers .
2. bolt on gear box mount beneath the battery is loose .

no.2 getting checked 1st ....then will take it from there :dapprove:

I've got the some problem. Mine does it when pulling away, when it the clutch bites quickly and also when I let off the brakes when stopping.

It is like something is loose slightly or some bushes are knackered.

I'm getting a creeking noise in my steering at low speeds, once the car is warmed up too.

cheers for your comments guys at least i am not alone i have got the strut washes coming shortly so will check that one out but i have creeks 2 through the steering ...arrrgggg these renaults are so w**k ha ha anyone else got comments on this let me know guys how you get on cheers

dog bone mount or lower gearbox mount

the dog bone's bolt can shear, meaning the mount is still mostly intact but there is some lateral movement, which is the noise you hear when pulling off. i've had three replaced now. none on this car yet though.

I'll mention it and get it all checked out when the car has it's 36k service at Carlton Garage in the next couple of months.

how much are these parts mate? and cost to fix ??

bet the gearbox mount under the battery is loose. ive had quite a few where the 13mm bolts/nuts come loose allowing the mount to move around. come loose twice on mine now.

remove your battery and you will see the bolts. just check they are tight. mine you could see it had moved around from the mark it had left.

i did used to work at gordon lamb. left middle of last year. if you get stuck i am cheaper than lambs.

..........well got me car back and the knocking was the engine mount above the gear box , it had worked itself loose , now tightened and ......a ok

Unfortunately i cant give anymore info as nick at hillpower did mine for me . I got the idea of the fault from a guy at the stealers , nick confirmed it and tightened the bolts up . wow , cant say i miss the knocking ....defo sounds better now

defo now and again ....in low gears too ...when pulling off etc ,

you have to disconnect the battery to remove it ...... only reason i know is my stereo time is different .
