Hi All, Introduction and a Question

Hi all. This is my first post, and id like to say that i love reading these forums.

Right, down to business :)

Im still learning to drive, but am going to buy a 92 1.2 clio (insurance would be through the roof otherwise) anyway, a few questions that i expect would be easy for you "pro modders" :D -

1. On this car, would de-badging leave holes?

2. Im going to lower the baby :p but, how low could i go on normal shocks? Can i lower without any additional shocks/springs? I read i could go down about -30mm on standard gear - will i need a strut to strengthen?

3. will either of the mods affect insurance?

Thanks a lot guys

(sorry if ive gotten some of the terminology wrong)

Yes it will affect insurance. Im 18 with a 1.2 new model and Liverpool Victoria allow any mods though, however not sure cos of your age. No other companies will allow you to make mods until your 19 or 21. Unless you get a your dad as a main driver.

Now THATS a coincidence. im looking to go with Liverpool Victoria.

Any chance of you being able to look at your policy and see if they allow mods (im 17)?

I may have my dad as the main driver, im not sure yet.

Cheers for the speedy reply

If you make no mods for the first year, hard but i did it, go with Directline. Its the cheapest by far.

I havent got a policy yet, im using them next though (renewing date this month). Im with directline but as they allow no mods im paying a little extra and going with Liverpool Victoria.

Best thing to do is phone them up really. Though if you have your dad as a main driver you can make any mods definetly, and for free if you go with them.

Any good bodyshop can fill holes from badges, around the £20 mark. Id save up and get the car colour coded or delocked though at the same time.

I have -35mm all round on my Mk1 Clio - Standard Shocks.. seems ok, dunno if my rear ones are starting to give up now tho!

As for holes, You have a 92 Clio, so the badges are on the plastic strip.. you could get a carbon strip from a Phase2/3 Mk1, and then put that on - no badges then! Then just get some Phase2/3 Mk1 Rear Lights and you got a debaged back!

  Megane 225 baby! :)

Hello and welcome to the madhouse, that is ClioSport! :p

Just had my car lowered (see thread - My newly lowered baby *PICS*) and it hasnt affected my insurance, they just needed a letter saying that it was done to a professional standard etc (oops have to fax it off!)!!!!

Hope you enjoy driving as much as I do - keep us posted so that we can congratulate you when you pass! :D

Rob - would think that would be okay, Im with a company insurance scheme so would check with your insurance co!!! Basically they just wanted something to confirm that it has been done!!! :D

wow, thanks for the replies all round :)

though i only have a few posts, ive been reading the forums for around 1 month and a half, and enjoy reading about everyones mods :)

Think the best course of action will be to get back into lessons (cash flow problem as of late) then start shopping around for insurance.

i took online quotations at a few places - liverpool victoria were the cheapest i could find, direct line "opted out" for some reason, so will have to get on the blower.

my dad is 45, and has never had insurance in his life, and never owned a car in his life (had company car and insurance since 19) so how high would his insurance be as a rough guess? we live in an alright (maybe a bit rough) area, and the car wpuld be on a drive with standard factory bits all round.

anyone hazard a guess?

cheers

Liverpool Victoria - £1450

Elephant - £1800

and elephant wouldnt give me a quote with "mods" even though all i said was i had alloy wheels.

I reckon your looking at about £500 - £600 for your dad to get insurance with no NCB and allowing any one else to drive the car, i.e YOU!

Im on my dads insurance at the moment with CIS, they didnt raise the policy at all when i fitted alloys, lowered the suspension and got the exhaust done.

glad someone with CIS replied.

when i went for an online quote, it was arounf £750. but the only option whereby i (under 21 or 24 i think) could be placed on the insurance was by selecting "unlimited drivers under 21/24. is that correct?

cheers

Im not sure mate. I got it sorted out over the telephone. If its your dad getting insurance tho, having any other driver on the policy wont bump it up too much.

RT Owner - thats what i was hoping, but just thought it was a little starnge that in order to have a single driver under the age of 21/24 added to the policy, the only way to do it was to have "unlimited drivers"on the policy.

hmmm
