Hi,im new and have just bought a 182

  RS Clio 182
Hey there, ive just been checking out this forum, really liking it - just thought i'd introduce myself here :)

I start a new full time job tomorrow which around 20 miles away so i wanted a fun, fast car to buy - i managed to get a £7,500 bank loan.

On friday i bought a '04 silver Renualtsport Clio 2.0i 182 for £7,295 - its done 21,000 miles and in excellent condition,i thought this was a very good price - am i right? ;)

Im really surprised how quick this thing is - once you go above 3000RPM it just flies!

Im really happy with my purchase - other alternatives i was looking at was the Cooper S or Integra Type R - but they were a bit out of my price range - but im really glad i went for my clio now.

I took my mate for a ride in it the other night, and he was surprised how fast it was - he said it was quicker than his Audi A4 S-line and would thrash his mates Fiesta ST.

I just wanted to ask some of the knowledgeble guys on here how does the 182 stand up to the other hot hatches out there?

Cheers,Adam :D

Well, call us biased but most of us think RS Clios are just ace. There are threads and threads of 'discussion' about hot hatch rivals though, it'd be helpful to you if you checked a few out. Welcome to the forum!

Yeah i havnt had many chances to open up beyond 5/6000rpm yet,but i mean over 3000 it really starts taking off heh...my first & only other car was a 1.3 Fiat Bravo which i thought was pretty nippy at the time - so you can see ive taken a step up hehe

I got it from a dealer in Huddersfield, which i found on the auto trader website..i think its a really good price (£7295) considering the mileage, age & condition of it..

In fact i have some questions if anyone can help hehe :

The petrol gauge needle goes down & then goes back up again very slightly - is that normal?

How do you work the headlight washers? - ive looked in the manual and it says nothing about it - also pressed everything on the stalks heh - i'll probably never use 'em but i was just curious ;)

Also im doing an average of 29 MPG atm - is this normal? I can see this thing guzzling more juice than normal, costing me quite a lot more than my old car (i shared a Terios haha) - although its worth it for the fun you have in it

And finally,i have a service coming up at 24,000 miles - how much is it likely to cost?

Cheers,Adam

k just thought it was an other car! oh well

29mpg is normal for a new car;) i was gettin about that in town, but across country it was more like 35mpg, thats giving it some as well! the car loves to stretch its legs! just take it easly in the crap wether at the mo:eek:

headlight washers should work with the screen wash;)

welcome to CS.

The headlight washers only work when the headlights are on, and it automatically sprays them when you spray the windscreen.

29 mpg, your lucky mines normally at 27-28

and my petrol gauge does sometimes go back up a littlle but main it mainly does down, and quickly.

As said above, you think 3000 rpm is quick, wait till it gets to 5000 and goes to 7000, but watch out the roads are s**t this time of year and clio's dont like the wet.

Cheers guys, thanks for the answers :)

Just one more little thing about traction control - it came on automatically when i started it up but now i have to have to turn it on manually - you can certainly tell he difference, the front wheels just skid in the wet when you set off, when you dont have it on hehe ..

Id rather have it on all the time when its this shitty wet/snowy weather,is there a way to keep it on or do i have to keep switching it on?

And does everyone use it? (i mean the ESP button btw - im not sure if that & TC is the same thing)

Traction control is on all the time, if you press it and the light comes on, that means its off

Im from Halifax matey, got a Flame red 172 with black powdercoated std rims, have to keep an eye out! Regarding MPG, in the summer mine does 39mpg average, but in the winter its currently doing 32mpg, prolly due to the climate control being set at 24 all the time, and cold starts

Just a little update - im thinking of getting some Eibach sportlines on it soon to lower it - seen some for around £140 on a site,is that a good price?

Also, what is the ride like when its lowered,is it a lot harsher,or does it depend how much you lower it?

(im not even sure if i need to buy sportlines, can a RS Clio be lowered anyway without them?)

:)

Just thought id give you an update on my 182 and some new pics - i had both belts done last summer, also had it lowered on Eibach Sportlines at the same time as one of my old springs had totally cracked...it sits much better now, espeically on the front and the ride is firmer and more responsive.

Done about 26,000 miles in it now, just replaced the gear stick cover as the catches on the old one had snapped off and was just loose for about a year - very annoying hehe.

If i had some extra money id probably look to get a cup splitter & Spoiler on it and maybe some new anthrocite alloys, but i'll see about that in the future.
