HID Headlight Bulb Exploded

  PH2 Clio 172
Spent some time tinkering with the Clio today. I have had one headlight bulb not working for a few weeks, got a pair of Philips HID bulbs on the net for £84 delivered. As I also wanted to change one of the headlight washer jets that has an intermittent leak I went with taking the bumper off.

Came off easy enough, took the headlights out and did the bulbs, the bulb that was not working was in a right mess!! Looks like if blew itself apart, no wonder it didn't work...

that might be due to the ignitor being faulty

so it might blow the new lamp aswell but it could of just been a faulty lamp

I am kinda hoping the ballast is fine. The new bulb tested ok once installed. I replaced both, one side had an Osram that was working, the blown one was a Philips. For all I know the person that put the Philips in touched the glass and that caused it to fail prematurely. No way to know I suppose without seeing if it fails again over the next few weeks (unless someone has a ballast unit they want to sell!).

Edit: Does anyone know if Philips or Osram bulbs are fitted in the factory by Renault?
