Right so if and when i fit these HID/Xenon Conversion are they going to fail my MOT? Im a bit curios to know as they obviously dont have headlight washers or auto adjusting?

I dont wanna hear about a mate of a mate that got the MOT down a back street, anyone confirm that thye have passed an MOT with no problems with theese fitted or am i wasting my time?

As fitting after market HIDs to a vehicle that didn't originally come with them (DfT LINK) is illegal, I'd assume that it's an instant MOT failure. However unless the beam is miles off I doubt a tester would fail on it, especially on a 172 as s/he may not know that they aren't standard.

Think you need to weigh up the pros and cons of fitting them and risks associated with doing so.

Thanks mate. just what i was looking for.

A bit of a gamble, although i suppose i could put the standard set up back in for a day?

The Ph1 172 uses projector lenses anyway.... so I very much doubt anyone's going to notice as long as they're aligned properly.

4700k are the ones to get
I'd say 6000k, but each to their own.

ffs people, I'm sure if you search the majority of my posts have been trying to explain HID lamps to people.

1stly, headlight washers are needed to mot only when its a factory fitted extra. You are aloud any type of light as long as its white.

2ndly, a xenon arc lamp can only produce and this is a fact so listen, can only produce near daylight which is 5600k plus or minus 1000k. the only time you will get a different CT is at the end of its life where it will turn pink and green. Anything over 6500K is not being made by the lamp but the outside of the bulb has been painted blue. This process will attenuate the lumance of your bulb by about 3dbw (around 0.5 candel) per aprox 100kelvin (ovbiously depending on the type of coating used).

3rdly, remember if in order for a lamp to produce white light it must have equal amounts of red, green and blue. If it doesn’t, excusing a few hundredths of a degree then your bulbs are not legal.

they will only fail the mot if the beam pattern and alinement is not correct, wtch if you use projector headlicts then the beam pattern will be fine if you use any other head light like the standard clear ones fitted to say a 1.2 clio, then you will have a very scattered beam pattern with no defined correct dip to it, thus glaring other drivers(my pet hate)

Department for Transport says FAIL. :nono:

From the DfT link in my post above said:
2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

the department of transport ruels are diffrent to mot rules.

if a car is fitted from standered hid lams you do not need headlamp washers head lamp washers are not part of the test.

if you fit a hid kit it will pass if the beam is set correctly and the bulbs show whit light on plain white paper bulbs can look blue and still pass.
