hidden wiper function.

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf

Has anyone noticed that when you are in the rain and you pull down once on the wiper the sensative wipers come on.YES.....Ok when you select the next clunk down the wipers work constantly.YES...Some times the rain just doesnt fall in accordance with my wipers and im forever going from sensative to constant trying to find a happy medium......

UNTIL TODAY,whilst driving in the rain,i pull up at a shop and lazily switch of the car and leave the wipers in the constant position(second down).Upon my return i start the car up and drive off and the wipers are working in a mechanical way every few seconds.Like a sad person i start to count and there coming on every 5 secs or so,I even pull under a petrol station until there bone dry and there squeeking away like mad and working intermitantly.....Wots goin on,pls help...

Ian

the constant function (2nd pull down) is clever, once you are stationery in traffic it stops!!, as yet though I havnt discovered a proper intermittant wiper function though - true though that the auto function is a bit hit and miss!!

The Cup has this function, they are classed as "smart" wipers...

We get an intermittent mode with 5 settings, and 2 constant modes with a normal & fast speed setting, but when you stop they go to intermittent mode automatically, then back on again when you move off!

Not smart enough to turn off the rear wipe, when the rain sensor tells the front that it isnt raining though.

LOL! Im always wiping a dry rear window!

when in auto what is the most sensitive setting?

the dial all the way forward, or all the way back?

buggered if I can work it out

I hate the stupid sensor, It never wipes the windshield at he correct time IMO. The wipers also need the option of pushing the lever up once to clear the windshield like som many cars have.

trouble i have is it doesnt react quick enuff. when you pass a lorry and get covered with spray they stay the same speed, after you passed thge lorryb an pulled back in they start goin mad to clear whats already gone!

if the wipers are on constant when you pull up they will automatically drop down to the next speed down.so position 1 to int and position 2 to position 1.cup wipers on int have different time lengths between wipes that you adjust using the roller switch on the stalk.on other 172s(auto wipers)the same roller switch is used to adjust the rain sensor sensitivity.

Feel free to correct me if im wrong, but from my understanding of it; the dial function (roller switch as you put it) has two uses.

1. "Auto" or "Rain Sensitive Mode" - Stalk in position B (Second)

The dial adjusts the sensitivity of the wipers i.e. the more sensitive you have it, the quicker the wipers will react to different amounts of water on the screen

2. "Smart" Mode (Certain Models only) - Stalk in position C or D

The dial adjusts the length of time between wipes when out of Rain Sensitive mode. This is "Smart" mode and is fitted to (some) Dynamiques, and some 172s (and maybe the v6, havent a clue...)

I find the rains sensitive wipers excellent, they always react quicker than I could when a lorry or van coming the other way sprays my car with water, I rarely have to use any other position than the rain sensitive mode. In fact, in 2 months Ive only used stalk position C about twice !

Same goes.. I dont have any problems with the rain sensitive wipers.. sometimes I forget i have them on and just as I go to wipe it goes first..

No on count no. 2. I have a top spec Dynamique+ and it doesnt adjust the time on other stalk positions, nor does it adjust the time on the auto position. I also havent worked out which end of the sensitivity switch is the most sensitive.

You lucky Cup owners is all I can say.

Well then thats half the problem isnt it ! if you havent set the sensitivity correctly its not gonna wipe unless you drive of a cliff into the ocean !

Move the dial up (away from you) to increase the sens and vice-versa for decreasing....

If you pull the stalk back for a wash/wipe as you would flash someone with your high beam you get a single wipe with no wash.
