Got the van built up last weekend. Managed to snap off the return on a brand new radiator so had to wait till the Monday to get it buttoned up.

All fairly straight forward stuff was happy that it fired straight up.

Fitted the new ties and ends and wishbones while I was at it.

Ran the positive to the rear for my split charge / leisure battery and inverter.

Have ordered a 2000w inverter so I can run just about anything I’d need . Just doing my research on batteries at the minute as I’m not sure what I need on that front.

I’ve made brackets up for the coilovers just need them welded up now and I can have it aligned and motd.

Had the coilovers welded up after making some brackets a couple weeks ago, had pencilled in a few hours after work to have a go at setting things up and having a check over it before it’s MOT next week.

Coilovers on and camber bolts fitted. I have a set of shorter drop links here if needed but it’s seeming like the standard links are ok for now.

Had a good hour or 2 sorting the alignment and camber out with everything being new it was way out. But drives straight and the steering wheel is Bob on as well.

Couple little niggles to sort out before MOT just daft things I’ve forgotten to plug the wipers and 1 fog light back in. But fingers crossed it will get through as it’s now as good as it has ever been.

Been cracking on with the rear of the van.

Wired in a leisure battery / split charge / grounding block and 2000w inverter.

The kangoo having a flat floor welded over where the rear passenger footwell would be I decided to use some of the space for the electrical gubbins.

Cut in a new plywood floor, covered in rubber matting. Ideal for when it’s being used as a normal van.

Started on the bed area and placement for inverter and cut off. Trying to use every bit of available space as it’s a tiny van.

IMG_9038.jpeg

Continuing on, started building out a “removable” storage cupboard and drawer for cooking. Easily removable and fire it in the shed when I’m using this as a normal van.

Made up my own jig for routing in hinges.

IMG_9046.jpeg

Making a fold down bed that comes down in sections so I can use part of it to sit on, ideal for saving space.

Folded away:
IMG_9053.jpeg

I still have another section that folds down into the drivers section when the seats are forward I’m just waiting on a piano hinge for this coming. When all folded out it gives me 6ft of bed.

Made a storage space above the cabin just for storing clothes and odds and ends.
IMG_9054.jpeg

Re trimmed leather with red stitching gear gaiter, wouldn’t have really bothered with this however the standard one was totally haggard.
IMG_9057.jpeg

Where it sits just now. Few bits and bobs like magnetic clips and hinges to come and finish it off. was quite late on last night when I finished up so there is a few odds and ends that need tidied up, a little more storage to be added where I can like little nets and possibly some enclosed shelving.

Coming along now looking forward to get some use out of it in summer while road tripping.

  Twingo 133 Cup,
Love the idea of this and was thinking of doing something similar but with a maxi with the 5 seats and a roof tent for me and the Mrs with inside setup for the 2 boys to sleep.

A maxi and tent box would be far more practical! I’m blessed in the fact it will just be me taking this away so I’m not too fussed on space. I’m either going to have a tent or a small drive away awning style tent with me as well for campsites.

Added a couple of shelves today made from leftovers. Quite chuffed with them in all honesty the phenolic plywood is nice to work with.

First trip in the van is booked starting next weekend so trying to get everything sorted sharpish. Thankfully most of my deliveries have arrived today.

Headed down to the tunnel on Wednesday, bit of a long haul from Glasgow.
IMG_9108.jpeg

514miles and drove an hour and a half into France and used the “park4night” app to find somewhere nice and quiet to park up.

IMG_9113.jpeg

Made a healthy lunchtime snack yesterday as I’d only packed a couple bits to get me moving.

First time I’ve slept in the van. Fairly comfortable I’m 5’7 short arse and there is 6ft+ of bed space, have used a vango self inflating single mattress on the fold down bed and it’s decent enough.

IMG_9118.jpeg

IMG_9119.jpeg

On to Reims yesterday, didn’t fancy a long stint behind the wheel after the day before so took it easy. Stopped in at Reims-Gueux on the way to my overnight.

IMG_9124.jpeg
IMG_9130.jpeg

Unfortunately one of the new inner ties has developed “shitey” and I’ve got a bit of a rumble coming from the front. Not much I can do about it at this point in the trip but if it gets worse I will try and do a repair at one of the campsites.

IMG_9136.jpeg

Lovely quiet spot in the outskirts of Reims, Next to a canal really picturesque. So far the trip has been ideal. Needed a slower pace and bit of time to myself. Onwards to Lyon today and heading for the south of France. All going well I’m going to travel down the Spanish coast to Malaga. Going for a proper campsite tonight so I can have a decent wash.

1206 miles down.

Spent a night north of Lyon, fairly uneventful. Traveled down passed Marseille to a campsite on Sunday. “La Ciotat” very quiet peaceful town.

Tie rod is really annoying now but I’ve spoken to a local mechanic via google translate who’s going to rip me off for fitting a new tie rod next Thursday. So in the mean time I’m going to travel over to Nice tomorrow then on to Monaco for a couple days. Then I will come back here to get the van sorted.

Other than that it’s brilliant on fuel and the 197 seats are just perfect for cruising in.

Some pictures of the views:

Once you get off the toll roads some of these coastal roads are really tremendous. Views are something else, really has made it worth the trip just to see.

I realise I never checked back in after my summer road trip, the van managed a. Bit over 4500 miles, I got down to Monaco for a few days and then on to Spain as far as Bennicasim spent a bit of time in Barcelona and ended up heading home… well a few friends where at the ring and I decided to just “nip” over.

At this point the van was quite poorly the gearbox was making some terrible noises and I had an incredible wobble. Still I made it to the ring and hired the Apex cupra. So it was well worth the trip.

The van surprisingly made it all the way home. I sourced a second hand box and had it rebuilt, fitted it along with a new passenger side shaft.

With the colder weather coming in I noted that the van was harder and harder to start. I swapped out the injectors after a leak off test and it seemed to be better but not perfect. Van was also using a lot of coolant I thought it might have been a leak but now I’m sure it was just using it.

Have done about 15000 miles on it this year, traveled down to Newcastle for the Christmas period and on the way home the engine decided it had enough.

Melted at the side of the motorway.
IMG_0747.jpeg

Got it recovered to the unit and slept on what to do with it. I had been looking at estates to replace it with but now with it having next to no value I’ve decided to throw another engine in.

So far I’ve ordered all the accompanying parts and fluids I will need just need to source another engine.

In the mean time I’ve got the Z4 I bought in summer to use, or so I thought.. taxed it and got it out the garage and the power steering motor has packed in, seemingly common thing with them. I’ve ordered a replacement motor for that too so currently using my old mans fabia estate pd100!

Anyway some pics of my euro trip from better times!

Have picked up a lower miles Megane engine with 122k miles so pretty new in comparison to the kangoo lump!
IMG_0781.jpeg

Set about getting the engine out of the van to see what went wrong and prep for the new one.
IMG_0787.jpeg
IMG_0788.jpeg

Engine out and started to take it apart, culprit for dropping the coolant was this hose, annoying as it was a brand new hose when I had the engine out previously.

I should say the mk2 kangoo doesn’t have a temp gauge so not much to go off when they get hot.

Took the head off to inspect the damage:

As we thought it had melted piston 1, bit of a shitter but will throw it back together. Most of my parts have now arrived so going to try get some time on doing the belts on the new engine. I’ve got a fair bit of new parts from my old engine to go on like turbo etc so will swap that over and hope it’s fairly straight forward from there. Feel like I’ve had this thing apart way more times than I’d like to. I had originally bought this as a cheap run around and as with all things it has escalated 🙃

Blank the EGR off at the manifold while you're in there

Oh and that cat looks ripe for a chisel being smashed at it's guts 👀 :ROFLMAO:
I’m sure you or someone had said this the last time the engine was out! Renaults are bad enough at shitting themselves standard without going and f**king about with stuff. It will be getting left as is and hoping I can get some of my mpg back to where it was pre melted piston!
