Horrible noise Renault won't fix

  Liquid Yellow 182
Since I bought my 182 at end of March it has made this noise. When you hit about 105-110mph it makes a noise I can only descibe as a very loud high pitched screaming that comes from the central console above the windscreen where the interior lights are. It gets louder as you go faster and becomes unbearable.
When you push the console as it's making the noise it gets a bit quieter. I've been in other 182's and other owners have been in my car and no-one has ever heard anything like it before.

I took it to the dealer last week and they took it out and told me they heard the noise and they've fixed it. But it was exactly the same when I drove it so I took it back again today.

At the end of the day when i went to collect it they said they couldn't detect the noise because they cannot legally take the car to that speed. Even though last time they had it they could hear it... They said it's probably 'just a wind noise' and that basically there is nothing they can do about it... and that I shouldn't be driving it at that speed anyway!!! Hello! It's a performance car!! What about on private roads and if I want to take it on the track? They said 'well there aren't many private roads around here'. I went a bit mental and they just sent me away.

What do you think I should do? There's definitely something loose somewhere and I don't think it's fair that they shouldn't put it right. I know that you do get some wind noises, but this definitely isn't normal.

They can't just tell you not to drive at those speeds, tell them it's making track days a nightmare etc. Complain that you have been lied to and fobbed off. If the noise dies down when you press the dash it probably needs tightening or making more secure.

Have you got another dealer local ? You could try somewhere else . Some dealerships seem more helpful than others .

Good thinking, hadn't considered taking it to another dealer.
And to tell them its making track days a nightmare is a good idea, they can't argue with that.
I can see where they are coming from when they say they can't take it to that speed legally, but that's not my problem. They've made a car that can go that fast, they should ensure they can fix any faults that occur at high speed.

dont mention u av been to another dealer though , i'm sure they keep a record somewhere on a national database ......play dumb imo

It is quite a common one, a few of us on here have had it even at slower speeds on windy days. Badly sealed front screen was the fix in the end I think.

But as you have found it can not be replicated legally by the dealership in most cases!

Tap a hammer on your windscreen and get autoglass or whoever out for a fee replacement? Probably be fitted better.

My ex has just called Renault for me and had a go at them. The top bloke there said he'll come out with me in it tomorrow as long as I drive it. So we'll see what he says then...
I do think it's the windscreen loosely sealed so the hammer to windscreen could be a last option.

Well it went back today, top man at the dealer came out in it and heard the noise. Agreed it wasn't 'wind noise' and he thinks it has something to do with the climate control... Also my exhaust was blowing so he's ordered some part, my ex picked it up so don't know exactly 'what part' and it's going back in when that arrives. At least they're admitting that there's a problem now and hopefully it will be sorted soon.

My 172 had the climate control thermostat fan or something like that replaced because mine was making a similar noise although nowhere near as bad. Seemed to do the job for mine.

Yay it's fixed!! :D

Glad they sorted it and I didn't have any more problems with them. Took it in today and they've replaced the climate control unit and that's got rid of the noise. Well there's still an ever so faint whistling which I am not going to moan about, at least the screaming cat noise has gone now!

And they've replaced my middle box on the exhaust all under warranty. So I'm giving them the thumbs up now!
