Horrible noise when pressing clutch

Just got back from a drive to pick something up for work and half way through the drive something has happened. The car is making a god awful rattle /grinding noise when the clutch is pressed in and when the car is at low speed. Also noticed that when changing gear and letting the clutch return to its normal position resulted in a knocking noise much like a failed dogbone Bush but it won't be that.

Clutch is only a few months old too.

It's loud enough to make people turn around when it happens! And enough that my work colleague was concerned enough to say we should pull over and have a gander so it's pretty audible! Any ideas?

Release bearing I think. Should have been replaced as part of the clutch kit (they are usually a three piece kit - pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing).

What make clutch kit was fitted and who fitted it?

Hey man, yeah the release bearing was changed when they did the clutch. They showed me what it was like when they removed the old one and it was fucked.

It was a genuine valeo clutch kit from euro.

I've had a search and a lot of results are coming back as a potential clutch fork issue? I finish work I'm twenty mins so can have a good snoop around before I set off home.

Hey man, yeah the release bearing was changed when they did the clutch. They showed me what it was like when they removed the old one and it was fucked.

When I replaced my clutch a few months ago with similar problems to you I also had bad noise from the clutch fork and had the bushes inside thst changed at the same time .
The fork moves easier now

The cable pulls the fork . Maybe look at lubing the cable or having someone press clutch and investigate noise under airbox at the pivoting arm

Can't say a release bearing noise was that loud but certainly would say that is what it is

is it clutch pedal dependant this noise dan or can you just hear it better with the engine not revving do you think?

Weirdly enough he didn't mention that! I drove in the wrong lane coming out of Leeds on the A63 to the M1. I drove in the 2+ lane instead of the other one. Going to play back the footage now of me predicting it going to happen haha. Also got the sound it's making to upload

The funny this is only just yesterday I was asking my brother in law (works for the council on teh roads building junctions) how much you get fined for driving in that lane. Learnt the hard way haha.

uploading this video now btw, it doesn't do it when the clutch is only pressed it does it both ways and it doesn't change in pitch when i'm pressing the gear/not pressing it I realised after playing around on the drive home! It's when going slow, it's like a crunching sound on the front right. I'm going to check for bearing play in a seccy, what does everyone think??

Funnily enough it's actually the other side! I couldn't believe it either haha love the reliant comment, actually it's a valid point I might just take up golf instead of this car stuff.

Abit unlucky that is, did they mention anything about the number plate? I'm so close to ordering one hahahah!

Nothing was mentioned about the plate mate, he didn't ask about the exhaust or anything! Didn't seem bothered think he just wanted to get some more £50 fines out of people lol @Kchristmas

I've only had issues with release bearings twice but they always sounded a lot more 'squeaky' than that. I'm not a mechanic mind, that's just my experience of it. Definitely doesn't sound like a wheel bearing. A wheel bearing is a more consistent 'whirling' noise, I've always found I hear it at higher speeds.

If it does end up being a release bearing, it gets worse the more you use the car, just bare that in mind.

It's in time with the speed of the car/as the wheels are going around so i'm definitely thinking it's wheel/ bearing related?

When you are slowly setting off in first/reverse does it happen?

Yes, it makes a clonging sound when setting off. I haven't tried reverse yet

Check all your wheel bolts are tight.

I find it smoothes thing out with the coppers if you start with a few '' haven't you got any proper crims to catch'' comments,

You are polite dan i'll give you that, He won't be use to it being in Leeds, I would have started with ''whats up knob head?''
and took it from there,
Anyway back to the noise, jack it up and spin the wheel or if possible jack both sides up and start it up and put it in second, just make sure someone is in the car ready to hit the brakes if it all goes tits.

Did as you said and the wheel feels lovely and smooth, doesn't rock side to side either, and up and down there is a tiny tiny bit of play I'm not sure if that is normal though.

Realised it does it in a straight line and also full lock, maybe driveshaft related?! Oh dearrrr

Drove down my street really slowly with the window open and it's like a clicking/almost like a twanging noise

Clip on the CV boot pinged?
Also have you had Brembo discs recently fitted?The Brembo grubscrews that locate the disc on the hub are too long,and stop spacers seating correctly if you have any fitted.

Doesn't sound like driveshaft . Make sure all wheels on properly sounds similar to a noise I once had when garage didn't tighten my wheel .

The fuel rail guard can make some strange noises at low speeds abd take off if not tightened properly

Absolutely spot on. Had a look tonight and they seemed fairly loose, not finger loose but not on tight. Tightened them up and just gone out on two separate drives and the noise has gone entirely!

I thought mine was a driveshaft but when the mechanic come to look my wheel wasn't hanging on by many threads . Your video sounded exactly same noise
