How can i check to see if a hybrid engine is really a williams lump????

The engine number is quite a b**ch to see on them. The dipstick will have a white dot on it, but only if it has the williams sump too. A normal valver came with either a black or blue dot on the top of the dipstick.

The best way would be to drive it, if the engine is just a valver one, you won't notice that much below about 4k revs. A willy engine has more low down torque, so you should notice that.
If it's got a williams gearbox too, it won't hit 60 in second gear at all (top is around 57 mph) a valver engine & gearbow will hit 60 in second.
I believe (don't quote me on this) that the rev limiter is a bit lower on the williams, but if would depend on the ecu it was running.

Matbrown & Winston etc, will be able to tell you more (if there is more) they will also say my info isn't totally accurate;)

Williams has tubular manifold, valver has shitty cast manifold, also
Williams block has strengthening veins on the back of the block, you can see them

I forgot about the manifold:eek:

I also forgot to say, that the seller should have some sort of paperwork for the conversion (unless they did it themselves)

manifolds, dipsticks etc are pretty circumstantial. checking engine numbers is the only sure way.

tbh the only sure fire way is to have a look at the block for extra strengthening veins if it's a williams engine or for F7R written in the top right hand corner of the block if it's a megane BE. All other items can be changed (dipstick, manifold etc etc) so the block is the only way of knowing for sure unless you know how a williams engine feels to drive compared to a valver. Unfortunately it's not easy to see the block clearly with the engine in the bay though.
