why would you want to stop & stare at a light when your canning it? you can tell by the tone of the engine when you need to change gear anyway, & i had no problem seing mine when i was canning the 182 of the limiter in every gear,
I suspect you have never tried rallying if you cant see the usefullness of a shift light, especially a sequential one.
To answer the original question, you should be able to hook it up to the coilpack no problem at all, but bare in mind that it will only see half engine revs on each trigger wire.
What shift light specifically is it you are trying to wire in?
