How does backseat come out ?? ; bit o' weightsaving

  RS RIP
I'm starting to loose some weight in the Cup (172) before i put in Sparco's in the front.

Am at it right now in fact ; is it just the case of removing/loosening the two tox/bolts visable in the trunk ?

I was just loosening them and they do come loose but they seem to turn really heavy the further they come out ??

Help !

do i have to destroy the back of my car ? I've quit smoking and if the little buggers wo'nt turn i will not be patient enough

Is the grinder seriously needed ? Want to be able to bolt the stuff back on when selling car...

Are these the only two bolts i'll be destructing or are there more (apart from seatbelt-thingy's) ?

You only need to undo one of them (the black one i think) the other is actually spaced and the seat will slide out from under it. The problem you've encountered is the torx bolt in the boot floor pokes out under the car and the end of the thread gets corroded so it's a nightmare to undo. Lots and lots of lube and just keep working it out, then back in a few turns at a time (oo eer!)

cheers, just wanted to know if there were'nt any obstructions under the car that i did'nt know about... second thought i had was rusty ends.. not too bad then i hope

i noticed when removing the seat-part that it's already superlightweight ; how many kg are we talking about with the backrest, seatbelt-parts in total ?
Around 10-ish ? :S

Yeah its the only one holding the actual seat but to get to it you obviously have to get the bar out :)

Middle torx can be a right **** to get slack. They rust up.

Aye back seats are pretty light, its the 30kg+ each front seats that are the heavy bits

You have to undo 3 in total !

2 holding the bar in and one centre torx holding the back seat in

yes Andy, i noticed the third one but this is the one that you can slide the seat off with i think ?

Think he means there's 2x 17mm bolts holding a brace bar to the boot floor with the luguage hooks on it which you need to remove first but i'm guessing you've got that out.

Not gonna save a tonne of weight by whipping them out they're pretty lightweight seats:)

 just managed to loosen the two bolts so the bar is out...

I weighed the piece of carpet + plywood (that sit over the place where the sparewheel is supposed to go) and the bar ; they come to 5 or so kilograms . Tommorow i will weigh the rest (seats) that comes out of the back :approve:

and when all is done and the Sparcos are in i'll pop down to my neighbours at work and weigh the car in total on the bridge !

I drilled the end off of the black nut then took what was left of the threaded bit out with a bolt remover tool,

then I can replace it with a new one when I want them back in!

This evening had some spare time so... got the middle torx b*****d loose after almost ripping the skin of my knuckles and lighting a sigaret (which is a nono for me since two weeks)

so the backseat is out now , total parts weighed 20kg

Next up are the Sparcos, i´ll have to save up (decembermonth is killing the cashflow) so wo´nt be soon :dapprove:

20kg is a decent amount removed!

yes it surprised me really ! put all the stuff (one/two part at a time) on the weigher in the bathroom so might not be accurate .

The bar is a heavy bugger, then the backrest was also heavy in comparison to the actual seat, and the seatbeltparts...

Next up ; Sparco seat is 7,5 kg compared to the 25 kg of the Reno seat , times two so this will be a good mod !

Again, i'll post up the endresult when the time comes. The car will go on a truck-weighbridge at work

Very interested in the outcome !!

Heavy!

The ones I've got my eye on are 5.6kgs each ;)

i cant afford lighter that 7 kg as they go carbon ; too expensive for good relationship with the wife ;)

just went for a drive and i could already really notice a difference ! Outside temp was little over zero, that also helps alot i guess

should be looking at a 55kg drop in weight when i'm done !

That's 0.15 seconds off your 0-60 and standing quarter mile times.

Its the equivalent of 8 additional bhp.
