How easy is it to fit a amp in a 172

am just a bit concerened how u put the power cables along the floor(under the carpet at the edges), do u need to unscrew any trim?

How does the cable get through the bulk head? is there a rubber grommet?

were have you mounted ya amp

passenger footwell, look up, there is a large rubber grommet, remove this (will need to remove bonnet release cable), drill hole sufficient enough in grommet then feed cable through

interior, you can slip the wiring under the interior trim, but for best results it is best to remove the trim and feed cable into the guide clips

remove rear seats then slide through, replace rear seats, cable is in boot, do the same for the RCAs and remote cable - with the exception that they come from the head unit not the engine bay

You undo the torx screws in the plastic trim

Through the grommet...but might need some enlarging

Under the passenger seat or in the boot

ideally

power cable and remote cable down passenger side

RCAs down drivers side

speaker cable (if required) down centre

down the centre?

am planning to put my four channel amp in the boot, connected to 6x9s and a small sub( can u get light subs,? dnt wanna heavy one 10inch)

so do i need speaker cable in the middle then?

no you will not need speaker cable down the centre, this is only for speakers up front

in general, the lighter the sub, the smaller the magnet, the worse the performance

one exception to the rule however - Phase Linear Aliante Si, but ditch the 6x9s if you get this sub, as it is purely an audiophille sub and the 6x9s would destroy its abilities

Yeah, ditch the 6x9" if youre getting a sub and if you have good speakers at the front. Also, if you dont want to take up too much boot space with an amp, and you havent already bought it, then maybe you could think about getting a fan cooled amp like audison or boston.

I dont know anything about the PL sub, but I think getting a light sub will not be much good :) You need a big magnet and a nice strong box for it to live in and theyre both heavy! Well, if its a 10", its not going to be THAT heavy. Its not gonna make that much difference surely, unless youre driving a stripped down car with no seats but the drivers etc :)

My (soon to go) Infinity Kappa 10" sub and box together weigh 15kg.

sorry - got to laugh @ weigt of kappa sub and box, the box for my boston 8" sub and 0.6cu ft box is just over 20kg

the pahse sub is very light and very compact for the levels of performance it provides, operatred in a very small enclosure too, which means you save weight with the box too

My Vibe sub/amp unit is very light indeed! Its a 10". Has had an additional casing built on the side to cover the amp and wires, with a 12V fan to keep it cool... works a dream... weighs knack all.

Yeah, I know kappa isnt heavy - He was saying he wanted a light sub! There are lighter ones again, but I think the kappa is fairly light for reasonable performance and price. its box is too big for it too, so it would be a little bit lighter with a proper box.

As I said, its going soon in preference for a heavier focal or boston sub :)

i think the AA at halfords do it for £35 if your not confident. Just feed the wires under the platic trim where your dors open.

Yeah, Im getting one of those (but not the 8") to replace my kappa for my new car. Actually, I cant decide between that or focal!
