How far would you travel?

  ITB BG 182
Ok so im off to ktec on monday for the cam belt change and service but im traveling from Nottingham, thats a 400 mile round trip.

Im only going this far as i know that the mechanics at K-Tec will do the job properly and not mess me around plus ive been advised to go here from some one i trust.

Thing is how far would you go to make sure a proper job is done?

  Whichever has fuel
I travelled 450 miles to collect two seats.

Doing 400 miles for a pretty important part of the car is deffo fine. :D

Nottingham to Bournemouth is a nice run, I used to do it all the time when I was at uni. And the furthest i ve travelled is around 400 miles round trip, although I would make an exception for a minter.

I did a 120mile round trip for the cam/aux kits done. Well worth it as it cost me £150 less than i could find in my area.
Did a 750mile round trip to pick the Trophy up, nearly killed me but it was well worth it. :)

I personally wouldn't travel that far as I have a mechanic local to me whos done loads of work for me and my dad so I trust him with any job but if you've not got that I can see why you are considering it.

500 mile round trip no problem. Done it a few times for car services etc. Usually make a weekend out of it

I travelled to the garage at the back of my house and back to get the right tools! That way i knew it was getting done right. That and I'd just had a 500 mile round trip to pick the car up originally! :)

I don't think i'd travel that far. I'd have to be one hell of a recommendation!

Not sure where to take mine to though. Not much left in the east mids area. Birchdown is looking good.

Birchdown are fantastic, also sort any little problems they find as they go along.

They also fixed my cv boot clip and had to remove a rounded locking nut which they didnt know about, but was fine about fixing it

Furthest I've driven for the car is 250 miles round trip to pick up some wheels and I thought that was ok.

400 miles though is not something I'd like to do.

I took mine to the Bosch garage (Sitwell) in Spondon for my 172's cambelt and service. I havent had any issues john182rs.

You sir speak the truth, ive just been given the pleasant information that all bushs could do with replacing as soon as poss, exhaust mounts also need doing today and the big biggy is...
The vvti is off by a fair bit so they need to get the timing back in order plus the fuel pump is putting too much pressure through amongst other things. Ive asked for a full engine inspection and anything urgent to let me know an get it done while im here.

Its not so much the fact of a dodgy garage where the cam belts concerned, its having all the correct specialist tools and familiarity with the engine thats key.

One tooth out and thats you lost X amount of BHP etc

where is the closest specialist to me? LL13 area? My local mechanic is a legend but doesnt supply parts just fits :(

Pop to a motorfactors and get the parts. My mechanic is very good. I supplied a belt to him and got a phonecall from him saying it was wrong. He went to the motor factors and got the correct one (not my fault, they supplied the wrong one) and he even changed the manufacturer and got the gates one which is what renault use. He was an ex renault mechanic years ago with his own business now. He was very very reasonable. Think I paid 200 to have both belts, oil, plugs changed. Way cheaper than renault

Do u know the name of the garage an there number? As mine has just hit 35k so im doin the belts as soon as possible. If this garage is well trusted an a reasonable price it might save me the job of doin it on the drive, and ive got 2 buy the locking gear so not sure how much money im gona save doin it myself.

well the bill mounts, its over a K now, but checked with renault out of curiosity on price and they would need the car for 3 days as the parts are not in stock plus i would be paying almost triple what k-tec are asking.
