How Hot?.......

Or cold? My goddamn external temp reading is f**ed up all of a sudden. It is now -1deg all the time.

Have read a few posts about these failing a lot, but what I really gotta know is, will this affect my automatic air conditioning or not? Would prefer a definate answer if anyone knows for sure.

Hopefully if I do have to fix it, it is just a loose connection in the wing mirror, I don't fancy shelling out the £70 or so for a replacement, and don't fancy removing the drivers airbag, dash to check the wiring behind the display.

I replaced a mirror assembly the other day and it came with a new sensor so I chopped the old one off half way up the loom and saved it, PM me your address if you want me to send it you.

Edde, what are you basing this on if you don't mind me asking?

Looking at the crap wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual, the only temperature sensors in mentioned for the auto air con are the passenger cabin sensor (internal) and the blown air temp sensor (I presume measuring the temp of the air blown by the air-con).

I'm sure the external temp sensors connected I've been menaing to have a look not looked for ages.

I had both of my mirrors stolen, and the climate control didn't work at all till I got a new sensor. You could obviously make your own choices with the controls, but it did nothing on its own.

Not quite the same as having a broken sensor that still gives a reading (even though it's wrong), but it is definitely connected.

edit: I'm assuming by "automatic air conditioning" you mean climate control.

Wasn't sure whether there was another air con option on the 1.6 as soon as I hit post reply!

They are £70ish from Renault but around £10 - £15 on eBay.

Or Spend about £55 on a new driver's side mirror and get a £70 sensor on it free. (?)

I suspect the sensor's to decide when it will be misting up in the car by the difference between the temperatures inside and outside. So the worst that will happen is the climate will try to demist the air with the air con a lot. At least it works a bit, when the sensor's completely missing the thing sits with the fan off doing absolutely nothing by itself.

Well, don't know which of these fixed it, but this is what i did once it stopped raining today:

1. Took off the mirror backplate and dried the inside all around the wiring, sensor etc, and also gave it a spray of wd-40.

2. Disconnected the battery (-ve) waited for 3 mins then reconnected it.

My reading is now giving a pretty accurate 5deg (yes it is really that temp where i am, unfortunately!)

So, not sure if it has some kind of reset ability, but I am one happy bunny at the mo:)

Mine is reading 56 degree's at the moment, iv put a new sensor in, and disconnected the battery. any ideas?

Could it be the wiring at the auxillary display. Not really sure if that could give incorrect readings or not, but it might be worth checking. You will have to take off the top of the dash to check this though I think.
