how long before the exhaust falls off...?!

well aware the exhaust system is one of the weakest parts on the 172 but was just wondering how long most ppl have had their car before the zaust has fallen off?? iv done nearly 32k miles and the car is 4 years old...shold i be thinking about gettin a SS system yet?

hi mate my exhaust fell off at 26000 miles on an 03 reg 172 get it changed apparently the backbox is to heavy for the weld to the pipe and there aint enough exhaust brackets

Mine fell off at 32k... heard a few others that went at similar mileages too.

lol. well i guess im gettin a new exhaust asap then! which specific part of the system fails then? if its just brackets isnt it easier/cheaper to buy new ones??

Nope, its the exhaust itself mate.

As the exhaust passes over the rear axle, it creates a big bend. Water collects at the bottom of this bend, and slowly rusts it through, until your backbox falls off.

39k my back box fell off then at 44k it fell of again then at 46k my centre pipe cracked thats why iv got a ss exhaust now well worth the lifetime garantee
