How Long, Brakes?

  Clio 197 R27 Albi
Getting Front Discs & Pads fitted (Brembo HC's + Fedeo 25000 Pads)
+
Standard Rear Discs & Pads fitted

Is there any bedding in period or anything I should be doing once the new brakes are fitted?

Thanks

Different people say different things, i've heard that you should do 3 or 4 really harsh stops from 80ish to bed them in and others say just be carefull on them for a bit.

Me and most of the chaps at EBC i speak to agree to just drive them like normal, i always have and never had any problems, they just smell abit at first

Yeh there is a sort of bedding in procedure. Google it as Im sure you're not the only one to have asked.

I think I braked gently from 50ish very slowly, then gradually braked harder and harder from the same speed. Also allowing increasingly longer time for the brakes to cool between each brake.

Recently looked this up:

4-5 stops from 30mph medium sort of pressure

3 stops from 80-90mph to about 20-30mph leaving time between to allow brakes to cool.

Here's what I posted in an earlier thread. Make sure you start gently, let them cool between braking and don't come to a complete stop.

To bed mine I went from 40 to 20 about 10 times using light/medium braking and gently building up speed between each one. Then few 60 to 30s and finally few 80 to 40s. Did this on the Saturday then couple of hundred miles normal driving before tracking it on the Tuesday. Think it worked quite well as I didn't get any fade at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the idea of bedding in the brakes is to stop the pads glazing. I usually do about 100 careful miles then start to work the brakes harder. Never had a problem doing this.

I do this everytime i change discs and pads

race pads - generally gradually get them upto temp, as long as you cool them down properly (ie drive without braking for 10min) you'll be fine, after that go nuts, just remember to cool them down

There is a leaflet that comes with DS2500 pads about the bedding in procedure. Make sure you read it before you start bedding the pads in. its quite specific about certain points. I cant recall exactly what it said but I stuck as close as possible to the recommended method and didnt experience any problems.

Done about 50 miles now and bedded in as required.

Brakes still dont seem to be that good, does this kit need to get quite warm before before they get going as i havnt had chance to use them warm or hot yet.

Maybe braided brake lines might help?

To remind, i have new rear discs and pads and brembo hc's discs on front with feduo 25000 pads upp front.

Thanks

They should be very good. Even from cold, my HCs and 1144s work very well from cold.

Maybe they just aren't bedded in fully yet, stick with it and see if they improve.

Braided lines won't change things dramatically.

try the other bedding in procedure to see if they improve. there's a 'greening' phase that you should put compo pads through before they'll perform as well as they can. they might just be poor from cold, of course; although haven't seen many people complain about DS2500s

Think a bit more bedding in should do it, think there getting better
