How long can i drive.......

  BMW M3
........ with a bust CV boot ?

Noticed this had happened about 1.5 weeks ago when i was washing it and was only a day old or so. Been trying to book it in to get fixed under warranty but due to communication breakdown it is now booked in for this time next week. So that will be nearly 3 weeks and a good few hundred miles since it lost its grease.

Is that leaving it too long ?

Thanks

yes, chances are you will cause damage to the CV joint, and consequently gain a bit of free-play. Even with the new boot, it will deteriorate gradually untill it fails.

Will I be able to tell easily that it is worn ? Would want to get that fixed too if it is. Im hoping by some chance renault actually call this one under warrenty and give me a free cv joint if is worn. Are they expensive ?

I would normally just try do this myself but i dont have the time right now.

This happened to mine recently. If dirt and crap from the road gets into the joint it will die but I caught mine in time.
Does it make any noise?
as a temporary fix you could slap some grease in there and cable tie it (thats what my stupid garage down here did) until I could get it somewhere decent to fix it.
I also didn't drive it once I noticed the problem :S

Ive had a breif look at it and it actually seems fine. Cant tell where the grease has come out from so im guessing there is a split somewhere, rather then it just coming away.

Saying that though, it was a half ar$ed effort to check as i didnt even take the wheel off.

I have driven quite a distance since i noticed it so guess ill just try and get a new cv joint.
